As a libertarian, I wish the democrats were doing better.

Why on earth would I say that? Because it would make the republicans actually have to run on some platform, have a purpose, ideas, etc, not simply say "vote for me because I'm not a democrat." That shouldn't be enough to get anyone into office, but unfortunately, the left has done such a bad job that simply disassociating oneself from the party can get someone elected.

I'm pissed because I hear how well republicans are doing in the polls, and how they're supposed to smash the dems in November, but I've yet heard one good idea from them (besides repealing or not funding the Obamacare bill) and so they'll simply get elected based on "not being a democrat" which doesn't benefit our country. In fact, it just prolongs the pendulum swinging wildly from left to right, and our country always seems to do better when it slows down around the middle.

I don't want a republican or democrat owned congress, I want it dead even, or as close to dead even as possible, so both parties have to come up with good ideas. Of course this doesn't work with a corrupt congress, so we need to hit the "reset" button, get a bunch of people in there who really work for the people like they are supposed to, and get this country back to a two-party system that works, not a one party dominated, then the other party dominated, system. It's bound for failure. And continueous failure, in both directions.

Yawn.

You want two parties that have no real difference but have to work "Together" to achieve what? Bi-patisan is not the answer.

Ha ha ha!

Someone actually thinks that good ideas get people elected.

Demagoguery is what gets people elected. Always has and always will.

Good ideas are bad in politics for two reasons. The first is because doing what needs to be done often requires a great deal of personal responsibly over the long term on the part of the populace and the people would much rather hear bad ideas that benefit no one in the long term but provide short term benefits for their group. The second is that good ideas actually solve problems and politicians, being our great problem solvers, don't want to work themselves out of a job. Instead they want to manage problems, thereby ensuring their "expertise" with specific problems will keep them in office for a long, long time.

If that's not the answer, why do we have a two party system? It's not to be dominated by one.

And please, by all means, tell me what platform the republicans are running on. You had a golden opportunity to do that, but passed it up and elected, instead, to yawn.

That was the yawn heard 'round the forum.

I agree for the most part, politicians do seem to have a much lower standard lately. Nothing good really gets done anymore.

This is actually a great post, CT!

Tim-

Perhaps a better question for this thread would be, when was the last time either party did something that had a real, measurable benefit to America?

And let me emphasize "measurable" because politicians and their followers will argue that everything they have done has had a benefit to this country, but few to none will actually provide the hard evidence to back it up.

There is only one party and that is the RepubliCrats.

Nothing has been done for a while. People vote on emotion rather than research. It's why I hold a certain hatred for those "Vote or Die" campaigns. It's better that people don't vote if they're not going to spend the time doing the research.

Good sentiment, but it doesn't matter how well or poorly the Democrats are doing. Republicans won't struggle for a principle until conservatives want them to, or rather, will them to, which isn't like to occur, because conservatives are resolute in the belief that the most important thing is keeping liberals out of office. Potentially divisive conservative policies (aka, cut welfare to reduce the debt) only increases the probability niche groups like the elderly will swing left, so standing by conservative principles is a liability the Republican Party cannot afford.

I agree completely. So far, the Republican comeback has been extremely anticlimactic. I used to just say that I was a Republican so I didn't have to go into it, but after seeing their true lack of assembling quality candidates and platforms I make it specifically clear to everyone that asks that I am not a Republican, though I would likely vote Republican over Democrat. I guess we haven't hit rock bottom yet.

You have just realized what Ive thought for months. Its nothing but statism vs statism-lite. The Democrats rape us but the Republicans take us out to get a burger before raping us. Abusing of civil liberties, perpetual war, police socialism, military socialism will continue under both team red and team blue, and will only continue until bankruptcy knocks on the door. The few that actual practice what they preach will be regarded as a radical, a liberal, terrorist supporter, racist, anti-christian, (insert insult here), etc.
