The Army is now convinced there was “foul play” involved in the two-month-old disappearance of Fort Hood Soldier Vanessa Guillen, Rep. Sylvia García, D-Texas, said Tuesday. “They have now used the words foul play. They are convinced now that there is foul play involved and they are following all the leads they can,” the congresswoman said at a Fort Hood press conference that was live streamed on social media. After weeks of protests, Guillen’s father, sisters, García and their attorney Natalie Khawam met with military investigators and officials at Fort Hood, Texas, where Guillen was serving and last seen. Her mother, Gloria Guillen, was also invited, but she said at the press conference that after she saw images of soldiers searching for her daughter in a river, she felt too ill to attend. Guillen, a 20-year-old private first class in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, was last seen April 22, at a Fort Hood parking lot. Her car and barracks room keys, identification card and wallet were found in the armory room where she was working the day she disappeared, Fort Hood officials have said. García said the military has pulled phone records and reviewed credit card and security records. Information on when she was last seen is based on interviews with people, however no camera video exists, which the family and their attorney said they found odd.
The military confirmed Guillen was last heard from at 11:30 a.m. based on phone records. The family's attorney Natalie Khawam said that a text was sent from Guillen’s phone on the day she was last heard from, notifying a supervisor of a serial number of one of the weapons she had to review. Khawam questioned why such important military information would be texted and whether the text actually came from Guillen or someone using her phone. Guillen’s phone has not been found, Rep. Garcia said. There continue to be discrepancies between the family’s timeline and what the investigators have detailed. One has emerged regarding whether Guillen was in her barracks when routine head counts took place. “In at least one, it was admitted the supervisor or sergeant who actually is supposed to account for everyone in the barrack submitted a report that everyone was accounted for when, in fact, now he’s admitted that he did not see Vanessa,” said Garcia. Khawam said the family shared with military officials that Guillen had told them as well as friends that a sergeant had followed her into a shower while she was naked. “We suspect that person was her supervisor the same day after she was missing,” the attorney said. The family also said she was not supposed to work on the day of her disappearance, but was called in to work and they want to know who called her in.
Army suspects foul play in disappearance of Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen
On the face of circumstantial evidence, foul play seems a very good possibility. Some happenings possibly point to a supervisor.
I hope she is just AWOL and not deceased, but I have a bad feeling here.
Between rising COVID cases in Texas and this disappearance I am really glad I'm not stationed in Fort Hood anymore.

Should be glad, last time I stepped foot on fort hood I was a visitor instead of a soldier. My friend was sent to the 41st fires brigade barracks, the same ones 4id sent me to after coming back from afghanistan, they were pretty ragged when I was in them. However when visiting him and cough bringing some ice cold beer against field training rules cough I was pretty much sickened y the state of those barracks, I nearly called the post sergeant major and general.
To put how bad it had gotten, those on rear detatchment in those barracks had unmowed grass, and I watched soldiers just tossing garbage bags over balconey's into the barracks quads just leaving them there. I had never seen any unit even the most poorly run get away with such poor leadership and discipline, so much I was tempted as a civilian by that point to bitch out the post commander and nco over what a dump fort hood had become since I left active duty in 2011 and did my last national guard 2 weeks field training there in 2014.
I was sent to Hood in March of '67. When I arrived at the temporary barracks we were in while waiting for our orders the bathroom, shower area, was crawling with cockroaches. You couldn't walk to the shower without squishing them under your flip flops or having them jump up on you with every step. However, the regularly used barracks were just fine.
I agree with your sentiments completely that hopefully she is AWOL and nothing bad happened to her.
Nothing more really to say about that.
I did want to comment on one of the things that always irritates me about things like this. Way to often when things involve the military there are people who have no idea about the military yet they try and act like it.
It says the families attorney Natalie Khawam said that a text was sent from Guillen’s phone on the day she was last heard from, notifying a supervisor of a serial number of one of the weapons she had to review. Khawam questioned why such important military information would be texted and whether the text actually came from Guillen or someone using her phone.
Sounds like PFC Guillen was taking part in an inventory or something similar and sent up the serial number of a weapon. That is absolutely not such an important military information and things like that are sent over text all the time.
My unit is actually in the middle of a change of command inventory and all kinds of serial numbers are sent over text. Pretty standard business.
Again really had nothing to do with the disappearance of this woman and I really hope she is OK where ever she is. Just kind of a personal pet peeve.
If you were there in 67 you probably had the old ww2 wooden barracks, for hood got rid of most of them with the remaining barracks being converted to other uses like uso or churches.
Heck those old barracks were gone away with most everywhere, fort jackson had a few left, but very few, and many there were being converted to other uses as well instead of desroyed, camp bullis a former nation guard post now run by the airforce is the only post I know of still using old wooden barracks from ww2 on a normal basis, but the airforce took over so they added new paint to make them look less rundown and added air conditioning.
Now outside hose ww2 wood barracks, in basic and ait we had brick buildings made in the 60's, basic was not too bad, ait we had to move further away from the building for formation as the windows falling out was becoming a hazard. I found out much later the building I had in ait was shut down and redone after my cycle, as the other buildings were already redone and it was the last one in that area not redone, ie ragged and falling apart.
The remains of Ms. Guillén were finally found near the Leon River, east of Fort Hood. Concrete had been poured over her body and subsequent rainstorms caused it all to sink down into the terrain. Texas Rangers, detectives and cadaver dogs found the site a few feet from a burn mound that was searched on June 20. On Tuesday men building a fence near the site smelled a foul odor and saw hair protruding from the ground, possibly dug up by wild animals (see my Post #10). Material evidence found at the scene leads investigators to believe with 99% certainty that the remains are those of Vanessa Guillén who disappeared from the Fort Hood Army base on April 22.
Killeen police later encountered a suspect tied to Guillén’s disappearance early Wednesday. The soldier pulled out a weapon and took his life. The estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier has also been detained in the Guillén investigation. She is being held at the Bell County Jail. The Army did not release the names of either suspect.
Terrible news, but at least the family now has some closure. RIP Vanessa.
