Already, a small team of deputies roams the human-trafficking routes to enforce a nine-month-old state law that makes smuggling people a felony and effectively authorizes local police forces to enforce immigration law.
Not only do deputies charge the smugglers, but many of their customers have also been jailed. That has drawn criticism from several quarters, even the politician who sponsored the law and has generally supported Sheriff Arpaio's position.

The Mexican Consulate has filed a law suit against the Sheriff and against Maricopa County over the sheriff’s interpretation of the law in order to stop him from arresting illegals and charging them with this FELONY.

One of their arguments is that the sheriff is stopping them from providing for their families. The sheriff answered that their argument was ridiculous, like any common criminal arguing that they should be freed and allowed to continue to break the law because the police are preventing them from providing for their families by arresting them!

He went on to say that he is not a lawyer, that he is a policeman, and, if the Federal Government still refuses to do their jobs, if he has to put up 10,000 tents up to house all the criminals he catches and has convicted then he will do it!

Once again, the Mexican Federal Goverment is acting on the behalf of illegal Mexicans immigrants (by the MILLIONS) who are breaking U.S. Laws!

What is our Goverment doing for us?
Tipping off the Mexican Govt on the whereabouts of the Minutemen and trying to pass legislation rewarding 12+ Million illegals with citizenship while doing nothing to stop the illegal flood of more immigrants into the U.S.!

Re: Mexico Sues Sheriff/Maricopa County, AZ

Just out of interest, how does the US get on with deportations of illegals? Its all very well this Sheriff arresting them, but are they actually being thrown out?

We here in the UK can't get our government to do a damn thing about them, and the process is ridiculously drawn out. Just this week we've been told that nine Afghani's who hijacked a plane to get into the country won't be deported, the government is having to go back to court and appeal the decision before they can even begin the deportation process.

From listening to his interview, he does not expect INS/Immigration to deport them. He believes they would be more inclined to take them from him and just release them again. that is why he has said he is intent on charging them on the felony and holdig them all, if need be, for the 3 years or so as per the sentence....sending the bill for incarceration to the federal Govt since it is a result of Federal Goverment's failure in their Immigration Policy.

Good for the County and Sheriff. I hope this catches on through out the Country.

Well he's doing his job, I respect that. Maybe the Minutemen should be teaming up with guys like him, they must be getting a bulk discount on barbed wire and he's going to need plenty of space to store all the people he apprehends.

What's the reason for the federal government being so lazy with enforcement? We hear stories in the UK coming from civil servants dealing with illegals that the Home Office is useless and doesn't give them the means or permission to do the job properly, and that's why so many are getting through.

My guess is 2-fold, the 2 greatest reasons a politician does or does not do anything:

1. Votes: The sad reality is that our politicians are eventually going to reward the 12+ Million illegals with citizenship, slapping the economic burden on Americans, and that means a butt-load of illegal voteers soon to become card-carrying Y.S. Voters - 12+ (and counting) Million Votes out there!

2. $$: The number of businesses breaking the law and hiring illegals is astounding. Instead of enforcing the law (fining them, seizing land/resources, and/or pad locking doors), I believe lobbyists are padding the pockets of politicians to stop the enforcement of existing laws from happening!

The #1 reason? See #1 above!
