All parties have taken words out of context to make a point. One in question is the Trump video of Biden saying he will raise taxes. The Trump ad then goes on to say Biden will raise taxes on everyone, where if the Biden video was in context with the rest of what Biden was saying, you would know Biden was saying he would raise taxes on the wealthy, not everyone. If this kind of stunt is a bad on both parties, but Scalise has gone one stop farther. He has actually put words in the mouth of Biden that were not there and now is defending his right to do so. He is basically saying it lies inside the meaning of what Biden believes, that Biden wants to defund the police although Biden has often said he does not. Whether you believe that to be true, the video ad is an outright LIE. With our present ability to manipulate, we could have ads that were totally manufactured and how would the public know. I think that someone has to say enough is enough and stop this now or no telling what the future holds, never knowing what is true and not. Are you okay with this total manipulation of a video?

Interestingly, Scalise was just busted spreading a video in which there was a deep fake. The maker of a video digitally added words to a question to make it seem like Biden agreed with a point.

Deep fakes are going to be a big problem this year.

James O'Keefe has made a career out of it.

I don't put much creditability into any political adds that attack the opponent. One reason I say check and verify what you see or hear.

In short, no. Is there some hypothetical extreme situation that might be different? I'd have to see it, but short answer, no. But we're at a technical point that we're about to have video that is basically completely forgeable, not just clumsy false editing. Watch this for an example fake video of Obama already made to demonstrate it:

No.

Years ago I enjoyed MSNBC for its liberal bias. It was open so it wasn't offensive.

Then I caught Maddow taking a speakers words out of context so it appeared he was saying something he was not.

I knew this because it had been discussed here the day before and I had heard the whole segment.

So I stopped watching Maddow. And announced it here because I talk **** about manipulation all the time.

I think we need to redifine "lie" to mean "any information disseminated with the intent to cause people to misapprehend a situation".

Something.

I do not believe that the Founders intended to eternally protect the right to use the technology that every modern tyranny used to establish and, uses to maintain, their tyrannies.

They sure seemed to lock down every other tool and technique they were aware of.

Biden's carbon taxes will be a tax on everybody.

At this point in time, the right has a view of the protests like the view at the Tulsa rally.

In all the camera shots it appeared as if the arena was filled.

But photos from other angles show that only those upper seats visible to the cameras were full. I worked a Hillary event in 2016 where they did the same thing: shot her speech in a way that made it look like more people were there.

The right sees the protests the way their media wants them to, as opposed to how they actually are. Giving the impression that dem cities are in flames and going outside anywhere in them is risking your life. When in fact most of the violence is very localized and involves a completely separate group of people. I have seen vidios of "AAAAH!!!" Where you turn the camera 180 degrees and it's rainbows and puppies. (Actually just regular city streets with regular (for COVID) activities. But you get the idea)

One thing we all need to remember: if someone gets all their information from conservative media we really are evil and trying to destroy their way of life. They actually believe this. They think trump has never done a single wrong or inappropiate thing. It is all attempts at a coup.

Don't let yourself convince yourself otherwise. They do not live in the world you do. Their's is distinct from that of the rest of the world.

Biden's carbon taxes will be a tax on everybody.

Unbridled support of fossil fuel with no realistic effort made to curtail carbon emissions is a tax on everybody.

The funny thing about this whole argument is that business is ahead of the current President on this issue, industry is ahead of the current President on this issue, virtually all of the industrialized west is ahead of the current President on this issue. We are not being made great again...we are being made tail-end Charlie and no, I am not OK with manipulating video to make a point.

Manipulation is presenting something in a way it is not. Much presented on this forum is manipulation because of being out of context. Context is the before and after of what is said that gives meaning to what is said. Something given out of context may not have the same meaning in context. Pointing out, in detail, the manipulation of lies and falsehoods, matters taken out of context, of Trump, and Trump supporters on this forum, occupies a great deal of time of those who care for the facts, the truth. The opposition continues in a bliss of willful ignorance.

So start posting actual facts and stop manipulating them to suit liberal needs.

If the truth were known, anytime taxes are raised on the job makers, all of us pay for it. Not so much if we all have to pay increased taxes. But If Ol’ Joe will reduce spending on worthless social engineering projects we will all benefit.

No. That would be propaganda and propagandists on either side should always be called out for exactly what they are: Liars with no credibility who should be stamped with the permanent label of being an unreliable source of information.

Any rational person would realize that you can’t get the money necessary to accomplish all the goals Joe Biden has simply by taxing the rich. Joe can stand in front of a podium and read a speech from a teleprompter and tell me I will not see an increase in my taxes but that’s Like Obama telling me I could keep my doctor. The bottom line is if Biden becomes president taxes or fees will increase on both the middle class and the wealthy.

Work is progressing swiftly on ways to sequester and preserve original digital video camera files with "volatile" type metadata that is not transferable in its original form beyond a simple cuts only environment in a nonlinear editing platform. This metadata can be compared to metadata on an edited version to determine if the video has been altered in a significant way beyond normal cuts and simple effects.

Unsurprisingly it is the "LEGAL VIDEO" and "FORENSIC VIDEO" professions that are at the forefront of these developments.
I don't anything beyond that about how the metadata is created because so far, nobody is sharing details, but I suspect it will be at least vaguely similar to hexadecimal SHA-1 cryptographic hash function being used now for internet security purposes.

So with any luck, we may eventually see a stake driven through the heart of the deepfake world at least to the point where it's only useful as a party gag or as a useful tool in the movie business, but not for real time news and information.

i just dismiss everything the Republicans put out as a lie. in the era of the shouting carrot, i'm correct by default like 97 percent of the time or more. as for the other three percent, WGAF?

If they BURN the money, it would still be extremely useful. The biggest problem our country has is plutocracy, that a small number of people have all the wealth and power, which is fatal to democracy existing except in a phony manner, i.e., you can choose anyone from this list of people who work for the rich you want. Simply reducing inequality is a critical goal - the good the money does is icing on the cake.

The Democrats always seek to raise taxes on "the rich". Problem is.... they always seem to define "the rich" as anyone making over x amount, which usually includes most upper middle class taxpayers.... NOT the rich.

I'd like to get the specifics. If she did wrong, I'll join you in condemning it. But since she overwhelmingly tells so much truth, I don't expect it would justify not watching her. I remember one in thousands of her segments I felt she did wrong. And I remember she said there was no way trump could get the hospital ship to New York in a week, then did not admit she was wrong when he did. But that's about it for such wrongs I've seen.

Hopefully you are not one who proposes socialism as the best way to reduce inequality. The Democratic Party appears to be adopting that idea and insisting that the only reason socialism has been such a failure is the way it was implemented. Democrats are the people who have been running cities like Chicago and Baltimore or decades and decades. That should make it obvious they could never implement socialism correctly.

Plus often once in power they lower the “x amount” to tax more people in the middle class,

First of all, no they don't. I wish they did. If you can show me one centrist Democratic politician calling for restoring tax levels to pre-Reagan - even to pre-Bush 43 - I'd like to see it.

Second, there are different issues in 'taxing the rich'.

One is trying to limit the most powerful - the top 0.01% - and to reduce plutocracy.

Another is simply raising enough money for the country, which broadens the group a lot.

With Biden talking about $400,000, it's the second category, and I don't see any problem with it. That group has had huge advantage given to it since Reagan, and it's causing huge problems for the country as that small group has nearly all the political power.

I know. I forgot to include that I waited and looked for a retraction and didn't see one. But she is usually so good about accuracy it kind of offended me.

There was definitely a change in MSNBC where it appeared to me they adopted an "If you can't beat them, join them" stance.

Where it shifted from bias to propaganda. It didn't sit well with me.

We must always remember these are for profit outfits and profit is why they exist.

Plus often once in power they lower the “x amount” to tax more people in the middle class,

Name some examples of their doing that "often" action.
