Got into a debate about the site's demographics.

Very simply, more to the left or more to the right?

Who thinks there are more to the right?

Who thinks there are more to the left?

Well, your poll here is a little confusing for some, I would think. Your thread title asks if that person specifically is more to the left or right, whereas your OP asks if they think the site as a whole is more to the left or right.

As far as arguing over the demographics anyway...we have a statistics page that clearly shows how each member classifies themself. Based on what the people have declared, the site as a whole leans more to the right, if I remember correctly.
 
I am an independent however I do think though that I lean to the left on more issues than to the right.

I tried to just open up some discussion for the heck of it. Guess that was my mistake.
 
Actually, after reviewing the stats, I guess it is impossible to get an accurate count with so many undisclosed.

The whole thing is worthless I guess (the stats and this poll). :doh

The poll says, there are more people leaning to the left.

One possible explanation would be, there are more people on the right in general, but more people on the left who are smart enough to know how to vote in a poll :mrgreen:

Is hoping for Constitutional government more left or right?

Is opposing military aggression as foreign policy more left or more right?

Is opposing excessive government expenditures more left or more right?

Is sensing tyranny as Homeland Security rises more left or more right?

Is thinking that people are capable of caring for themselves without constant handholding by government more left or more right?

Is opposition to prosecuting most victimless crimes like personal drug use or paying for sex, more left or more right?

Is recognizing that the media and government lie constantly more left or more right?

I place this in the same camp as conservatives claiming that people are afraid to be called "liberals". Most people are readily willing to admit to their political affiliations and beliefs, even when campaigning for office; it's their allies' beliefs they usually try to dress up for public consumption.

For some, since I don't believe in massive income redistribution I'm a right-wing nut.

For some, since I believe gays should have civil unions and the benefits awarded now to married couples I'm a flaming liberal.

For some, since I believe it is possible for taxes to be too high I'm a neocon.

For some, since I think we should support as a society those who cannot support themselves, as opposed to those who don't want to support themselves, I am both a neocon and a flaming liberal.

The world is not as simple as your survey.

And, I loved the response about people on the right thinking everyone is a flaming liberal but nothing about the far left who think everyone is a neocon.

Because I view issues on both sides of the fence.

Because I can't stand being soft on crime and hard on guns.

Because I can't stand giving all my money to social security when I don't even get to use it.

Because I can't stand the fact that our tax dollars are paying people to sit on their asses and smoke crack while Im out on the streets bustin' my *** (and bustin' those same people who are getting government money).

Because Im not a fan of neverending government spending. At the same time I don't think you should cut taxes if you know damned well your not going to cut spending.

There are plenty of issues that I am conservative on.

I will chalk it up to the fact that we have limited contact on these boards
on issues on which we are virtually always on the opposing side

however, just because you support a couple of issues on the right does not necessarily make you a centrist/moderate.
I am sure, if i wanted to rack(sp?) my brain i could find 2 or 3 things I am liberal on, but I acknowledge that the overwhelming majority of the time, and probably on the most pertinent of issues, I am conservative, hence my vote of being to the right

compared to NP you are very moderate :lol:
compared to your wife, you are more moderate
compared to our interaction, you are to the left
