I don't resent the wealthy's success. What I resent is they continue to stack the deck against the folks lower on the economic ladder. They insist on polluting our air and water in the name of profit. They buy influence in government and always make sure their interests come before everyone else's.Republicans are the party of the middle class now. I received more money from the Trump 2017 tax cuts, and I'll receive more money yet with the next round once the "big, beautiful bill" is passed. Biden never extended the 2017 tax cuts, but Trump will. Trump even floated no income taxes on anyone under $150k, although I don't expect that to happen. I'm not resentful of wealthy people, I say good for them for being successful. That's the American dream. Punishing people who become successful, and sowing resentment toward them is the Democrat approach.
I think a more revealing question is - Do you think politics is a zero sum game?Do you basically just support one side over the other and defend them like a fan of a team?
The middle class was created after WWII with FDR’s New Deal programs, GI bill, etc… it started to go away with Reagan’s “trickle down” lies.Republicans are the party of the middle class now.
So do you ever think beyond what happens after these politicians cut your taxes? Or do you think that’s just not your problem?I received more money from the Trump 2017 tax cuts, and I'll receive more money yet with the next round once the "big, beautiful bill" is passed. A lot of people that vote no on this poll are actually a yes. Most people on this forum, just like most people IRL, are very tribal with politics.Do you basically just support one side over the other and defend them like a fan of a team?
Used to be that way. A long time ago the Republican party was known as the businessman’s party or the country club party. The democratic party, the big tent party or the working man’s party. Not anymore. Money has become the name of the game in politics, the democratic party over the last several elections has received more money from corporations, lobbyist, special interests and more important, mega, rich individual donors. An interesting twist to this is last year Trump won the working man’s, the blue-collar vote for the first time since 1988 for a republican when G.H.W. Bush won them. Heck, Trump came within 5 points of winning the union household vote. The reality of the situation, although the democrats talk big on raising the tax rates on the rich, they do so with a wink and a nudge and make up for the possible rise in tax rates with huge loopholes in the tax code to benefit the rich which goes total unnoticed by most folks. In the end the rich end up paying less taxes even if the top tax rate was raised.I just honestly can't see why anyone who isn't rich would vote Republican.
A party that does everything in their power to slash spending on the things most people need like infrastructure, public transport and who seemingly think only those who can afford treatment deserve healthcare.
They are the party of the super rich and large companies and they have somehow convinced poor people to vote for them.
I just don't understand why so many people vore for a party that actively makes life tougher for them.
There's a link below showing the middle class has shrunk from 62% to 42% since 1970, , but the good news is that the upper income class has grown from 29% to 50%. Basically a good part of the middle class has become the upper income class. The middle class was created after WWII with FDR’s New Deal programs, GI bill, etc… it started to go away with Reagan’s “trickle down” lies.

As for taxes, revenue tends to go up whether taxes are raised or decreased. But Trump even proposed taxing wealthier people to pay for some of the tax cuts for the poorer folk. Plus there are a lot of economic growth incentives included in the "big, beautiful bill" which should help generate revenue. And of course there are the tariffs.
