Are the GOP/McCarthy investigations an attempt to scare off investigations of their future illegal activities?

It seems that the only thing that the GOP under McCarthy re going to do is investigate the investigations and of course Hillary's emails and Hunter's laptop. It all seems to be an attempt to scare off any future investigations by the Dems, the DOJ or the FBI into future wrong doing by Trump, the GOP, the right wing militia's, or their cronies, ie. "patriots". McCarthy is willing to do anything to be Speaker, but his place in history will go down as the worst Speaker ever if this is all he is going to do, be a servant of MT Green.

He certainly has the right last name to promote strictly partisan vindictive bullshit investigations.
 
As long as the executive branch remains in Biden's hands, the DOJ will do what it needs to do. Ditto for other jurisdictions. Like Georgia. Investigations into Trump will continue until there is a Republican President.
As for the motivations around the GOP investigations, as amazing as it may seem to the casual reader here, I just take what the Righties have been saying themselves: they have been going on and on about "karma and revenge" - a sort of "now it's our turn".
Imagine, someone hurts your feelings, maybe your ex, or your neighbor, or a relative, or your boss, and your reaction is "gonna get them back, count on it."

The purpose of the investigations is to pander to the base. All non-insane people know the bipartisan Jan 6 investigation and two impeachments were warranted, and will not be fooled by anything these patently partisan committees release, and McCarthy himself knows politically motivated investigations by the GOP will hurt the GOP in general public opinion. They are doing it to appease the crazies because without the crazies they will have no place in government, and they care more about that than democracy or running the country.

Select people like MTG want investigations because they are insane and have been radicalized from years of conservative propaganda on Youtube, Fox, and talk radio, no different from home-grown jihadists after 9/11.

Investigations aren't a deterrent. Criminal charges are the deterrent, and the GOP is unlikely to be able to file any criminal charges in those investigations. The only thing they will do is waste tax payer dollars and provide the illusion of "doing something" to conservatives desperately looking for some vestige of competence in the post-Trump Republican Party.

No. The goal of (pending) investigations will be to reveal the truth. But the Hunter Biden scandal should be near the botom of the list, IMO. There are much more important things to investigate. . . . things which caused hundreds of people to lose their lives due to failed policies and gross incompetence as Commander In Chief.

These are the things that need to be investigated FIRST.

I don't think so. I think they want to get to the bottom of Trump Russia Collusion, FISA warrants, Ukraine Bidens, Biden laptop, corruption in the FBI/DOJ, Jan 6, Southern Border, and more. Our government is obviously filled with corrupt individuals and we need to try to fix it as much as we can.

Democrats already had the conclusion of the 1/6 investigation before it even started. There was no reason for any republicans to be on that committee.

The investigations that get underway when GOP takes control of the house will not be "karma and revenge" - a sort of "now it's our turn" as some have suggested. Congress is compelled to investigate the gross incompetence of the administration when it becomes apparent. And it is glaringly apparent.

Hundreds of immigrants have lost their lives due to human trafficking caused by Biden's failed immigration policy. Hundreds of Americans died due to opiate smuggling (fentanyl) - again, Biden's failed immigration/open Border policy. Thirteen U.S. soldiers died resulting from a poorly-planned withdrawal from Afghanistan. As Commander In Chief, Biden's is accountable for their needless deaths.

How many people will die from the thousands of weapons that Biden left in Afghanistan? Nobody knows the exact number, but Biden is accountable for those as well.

Biden has a rough road ahead, and he needs to be held accountable. Americans need to be made aware of his gross incompetence.
 
The purpose of the investigations IMO is to give Republicans a false agenda to care about, to motivate their base and promote the idea that Republicans are fighting against corruption for their voters, and to placate traitor trump. Without the investigations, what do they have? Tax cuts for the rich, de-regulation. If they had the Senate, far-right judges. So they need something.

IMO that's what the red scare, the first McCarthy, was about. Republicans had nothing to offer the American people, so they claimed Democrats were allowing communists to be in the government, but Republicans would protect the country. It gave them something to run on.

That's obviously part of it. Another part is sheer pettiness. But those are only tiny parts, since their base does not care if they commit crimes right out in the open.

The main point is making a bunch of noise in a bid to obscure their complete lack of policy. Who they think they are appealing to is beyond me. We see through it, and the base actually loves that they know it's all bullshit. It trolls the left.

I blame the gop leadership for making demons out of everyone over the past four or five decades to attract voters to their base, sadly some of these folks believed the bullshit and turned into the freedom caucus who now wants a white christian gun loaded nation.
