Do you have evidence to support that claim. Actually the grants were surplus M16s
I didn't think I'd need evidence, cops only started toting AR-15s en masse and driving armored vehicles after 9/11. I thought everyone knew that.
I figured as much but thanks for your honesty.

Haha no problem. Now if you have anything else relevant to add about the merits of home defense weaponry be my guest. Otherwise we can safely conclude that a shotgun is superior in that regard.
In 1985 or so, a state of the art training facility opened up about 90 minutes east of Cincinnati. One of the cities I represented in court had a chief of police who was one of the owners. The partner who was the solicitor for that city asked me If I would like to give them some business to get them going so in 1986, I attended their first "assault rifle" training course. I was one of two private citizens. All the others were SWAT teams from the local counties or from two of the bigger townships. Most of the officers had Nam era M16 rifles-the two cops from one wealthy city had brand new MP-5s. But there were about 20 M16 rifles there. The head of Fairfield Township's team said his men got the M16s from some government grant. He said most of the departments in SW Ohio had at least a few
Its not always the case. AR 15s hold more rounds, have less recoil and usually have adjustable stocks. That are all major advantages
I was by no means claiming that police departments didn't have rifles before 9/11. However, like I said, the en masse distribution of AR-15s happened afterward.
More rounds is a valid advantage. However the larger spread of a shotgun, combined with the close quarters of a home environment, offsets that somewhat, as you are much less likely to miss your target.
I would say far more departments availed themselves of military obsolete M16s as the military went to the more useful M4 carbines and there were tons of first and second generation M16s gathering dust
what do you think the spread of #4 tactical buckshot out of an 18 inch cylinder choked barrel is at the distances you claim are normal for home defense?
Pretty small, considering that a choke is specifically designed to tighten the spread. But then, you could just use a shotgun without one.
a cylinder choke means no choke. its a straight wall with no constriction. Other than some spreader chokes designed for close range sporting clay applications with #8 or #9 birdshot, a cylinder choke is as open as it comes. (yeah my two Olympic skeet K guns have TULA chokes but I have never seen one on a defensive shotgun for reasons that aren't worth discussing)
My mistake then
What is your position on your statement in your thread title?
Hard To say but I do believe Democrat style gun control has a deleterious disparate impact on women.
Only in that, once again, the menz will have ruined it for them.
No matter what gun a simple yes suffices. Anti gunners are women hating asshats. My SO and daughters ALL own guns amongst many other arms. I insist they do. I don't put up with the little girlie bull**** about not liking them. They need to be able to stack the deck in their favor if it comes down to a fight, **** fairness. I insist they train and have the tools to utilize their training to best effect, and cheat like hell.
One of the girls I train in an Olympic sport is one I also have been teaching to shoot pistols and semi auto rifles in steel competitions. Shooting very quickly under time pressure. Speed reloads, shooting the guns till they are dry, reloading etc. I also teach the girl's father (he is divorced and his daughter has chosen to live with him and he soon will be moving away from his ex and her husband as he has taken a job 80 miles away from where he lives now)
During one of the Olympic sport's practices, one of the other parents asked this man why he likes his daughter being well trained (every weekend for the last 8 months plus about 15 competitions so far) in using semi auto handguns and rifles. And he said this: because I cannot watch her back 24 7 and when she moves away and is an adult, I want her to be able to protect herself from the assholes in this world.
An AR-15 is not an ideal weapon for home defense. You'd be better off with a shotgun. Wider spread means you're more likely to hit the target, lower muzzle velocity means you're less likely to shoot through a wall and kill someone else by accident. Rifles are designed for long distance accuracy, not for close quarters.
A man after my own heart.
I don't know but Joe Biden hates people being able to own AR 15s
Biden: "Buy A Shotgun, Buy A Shotgun" :lamo
