Over a hundred and fifty thousand African Americans, many former slaves, served in the USCTs, so your claims are flat out wrong from the start.

That is true, they made up about 10% of the Union Army and served mostly in non-combat units. A number of Blacks also served in the Confederate Army.

But that doesn't change the fact that they did not free themselves. In fact, most of those who served were able to serve because they were freed by White soldiers. It also doesn't change the facts that the vast majority of the fighting and the dying was done by White soldiers.

Back when my town had two newspapers, one ran George Will and the other ran Thomas Sowell. I read both. Will and Sowell come from about the same place on the political spectrum. They even have similar tastes, like a fanatical love of baseball. When Will would write something conservative, liberals would barely react. (What do you expect from a blond, blue eyed white guy?) When Sowell would write something from the same perspective on the same topic, Liberals would come UNGLUED. (HOW can a black man think this way?) Liberals think that Blacks are the property of the Democrat Party and the Progressive Movement. When one so publicly excapes the Plantation and brags about it, it drives them CRAZY.

Actually, the argument for reparations was sparked by conservatives actively defending the atrocities committed to continue to keep minorities “in their place”, such as the war to defend slavery.

There’s also the fact that history shows rather clearly that when African Americans did make it good “on their own”(whatever that means in reality ), raving mobs of heavily armed terrorists attacked them because of it.
