I'm of two minds about this whole attack on Rand Paul. I rather think that the Aqua Buddha episode was a good natured prank that should not disqualify a legitimate candidate from serving in the U.S. Senate. But, on the other hand, Paul in my eyes is not a legitimate candidate: he's an opportunist who is just hiding his truly bizarre political views until he safely ensconced in office. Worse of all, if elected he will be another weight around the neck of the nation, holding us back from solving our shared problems for another six precious years.

Excerpted from “Aqua Buddha prank victim: Jack Conway ad is "over the top," but accurate, raises legit questions” By Greg Sargent, “The Plum Line,” The Washington Post, October 19, 2010; 10:27 AM ET
Dem Jack Conway's new ad hammering Rand Paul over his college excesses is accurate on the facts, and it's legit to raise questions about his past views as a way of probing whether his current posture as a conservative Christian is genuine, the victim of Paul's Aqua Buddha prank just told me in an interview. …

Anyone can run for office provided that they follow the Constitution of the United States. His political views are not a reason to say that he's not a legitimate candidate. The only Constitutional reason why he's not a legitimate candidate is that he violates Article I Section III Clause III's provision of not being a resident of the state that he's running for. He lives inside the state of Kentucky.

No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.

Wow! Impressive scholarship! … no, not really.

So you believe in disqualifying someone because you don't agree with them?

It's a ridiculous attack. And I do not know what bizarre political beliefs you think he has that he has not shared with the rest of us.

I hope Paul wins so the GOP might bolster it's Senate number. If however this campaign was like 7 more weeks instead of just Two - Paul would lose, He's treading Water and it's beginning to show.

right. so. attacks and questions on Barack Obama's religion: Totally Way Out Of Bounds You Racist!

attacks and questions on the religion of Rand Paul and Christine O'Donnel: well, you gotta understand, it's all fair in politics, and it's something important that we need to know about......

It's another sign of the poor tenor of our elections. Both sides act this way and we shouldn't encourage it.

true. they only do it because we reward them for it.

whew!

only took....... 5 years?

wow.....

well, there we are.

want a beer? :D

But, on the other hand, Paul is a Republican, so anything that smears him is a good thing that I want to encourage."

Worse of all, if elected he will be another weight around the neck of the nation, holding us back from solving our shared problems for another six precious years.

In other words, he will help forestall a socialist utopia. Thus he must be stopped by any means necessary.

lol heheheeee, the geek side of me likes this prank. Aqua Buddha? lol
Still, I have no idea as to why paul would lose votes over this, most sources seem to indicate that this ad backfired.
