Approval of U.S. Supreme Court Down to 40%, a New Low

I’m honestly surprised it’s even at 40%. I would have figured the Republicans would hate the Court for throwing out Donald’s election theft requests and Democrats would hate the court for the Texas thing.

At least their approval rating is higher than Congress.

What??? Idiot leftists pouting and crying because they dont get their way? Holy shit that sounds...like...well...the last 5 years running. Non-stop.

"WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans' opinions of the U.S. Supreme Court have worsened, with 40%, down from 49% in July, saying they approve of the job the high court is doing. This represents, by two percentage points, a new low in Gallup's trend, which dates back to 2000. The poll was conducted shortly after the Supreme Court declined to block a controversial Texas abortion law. In August, the court similarly allowed college vaccine mandates to proceed and rejected a Biden administration attempt to extend a federal moratorium on evictions during the pandemic.

These latest findings, from Gallup's annual Governance survey conducted Sept. 1-17, come little more than a year after 58% of Americans approved of the Supreme Court, among the highest readings in the trend.

...Now, a majority of 53% disapproves of the job the Supreme Court is doing, exceeding the prior high disapproval of 52% from 2016. A Sept. 9-13 Monmouth University poll found 54% of U.S. adults disagreed and 39% agreed with the Supreme Court's decision to allow the Texas abortion law to go into effect."

In a democracy, a seemingly permanent consensus on a court is not a good look.

That just means they're doing their job. The Supreme Court's job is not to be popular. It's practically the opposite of that.

The Supreme Court is not a democratic body.

Nope. People like balance and Texas isn't balance. This hard push to the right isn't gonna work out for you guys
It is balance.

The Supreme Court simply decided to allow a law passed by the legislature to stand. The proper recourse is the state assembly and not the courts

The problem for the left is abortion is not a good issue to run on. As Abortion Barbie found out when her campaign crashed and burned in Texas.

Just goes to show how out of touch the majority really is.
I think this sentence should be framed and sent to Stockholm. There has to be a Nobel Prize for something like this.

It explains the desperation of the partisan hacks on the Court to repair its reputation by claiming it is "not a bunch of partisan hacks". (Yes, I know Breyer cares too.)

Then the elections will look after the situation.

Do you think the majority is always right?

Doesn't matter.

The 4th Branch...the Deep State...has all the power and they are firmly on the leftwing side. (when they are not fighting each other)

Yeah, it does. The destruction of democratic traditions strike at the heart of our democratic system. If the shoe was on the other foot, you'd be howling.

They can hide easier than Congress.

60 or more years of conservative control of a branch of government suggests our democratic system is failing us, no? And so extremely right-wing at that. They're starting to overturn their own party's precedents.

That wasn't what I meant by "always right".

Or, are you just practicing your "snark and sarc"?
oh, excuse me, i didn't know you were serious with the absolutist rhetoric

Yeah, it does. The destruction of democratic traditions strike at the heart of our democratic system. If the shoe was on the other foot, you'd be howling.
Who gives a shit about "traditions"? No politicians...that's who. Traditions are constantly tossed in the trash when politics make them necessary...and both parties do the tossing.

Hell, THAT is the heart of our democratic system: Traditions are a tool and tools are put away when they are no longer useful.

No

Yay dumb conspiracies!
They need SOMEONE to be the bad guy. They’ve won everything they’ve ever wanted in politics but aren’t successful so obviously there someone in the shadows ruining their lives.

So you have no understanding of the situation. The law in Texas in very anti American and more Stazi East German.

Very right wing

Will someone tell the Democrats that then?

Always a victim.

I wouldn't hesitate to say a majority of voters in the United States, would be considered low-information voters. How many of today's voters even know what the Supreme Court does, and can name the members of it?

The most likely outcome is .. very few.
