The pope quoted someone from a long time ago who correctly characterized Islam. Now, the religion of peace is killing people and burning things down...because they are exactly what the pope said they are.

There are a lot of misguided people out there who unfortunately read the New York Times, and consequently believe flat out lies like, "It's only the fringe...Islam is a religion of peace," but look at the polls for Christ's sake. They almost always have vast Muslim majorities agreeing with this so called, "fringe" pro-violence minority.

"Al Bedoui, a moderate and well-educated man, describes Osama bin Laden as a hero and the first defender of Arab people."

The Sunday Telegraph. March 16, 2003. Pg. 99. "A tale of two cities." IAN MCPHEDRAN, ALEX BRUMMER.

"A RECENT poll in Kuwait found that 74 percent of the people considered Osama bin Laden a 'hero.'"

St. Louis Post-Dispatch. September 12, 2002. Pg. C20. "JIHAD VS. MCWORLD."

And that was in KUWAIT, a moderate Islamic country and ALLY to US!!!

The lowest poll results like this I've ever seen were in the high 30s for considering Bin Laden a hero.

Forget that there are a dozen threads on this topic already.

Did you hear that OJ got acquited?

Personally, I really hate how Muslims seem to think that any words perceived to be negative against their religion justifies them responding violently. Do they not realize that when they respond like that, it further supports the attacks on their relgion to begin with. What is the matter with them? Are they that insecure about their religion that someone can have that kind of impact on their relationship with their higher power?

I don't think he should apologize; however, if people are getting killed/injured as a result of such statements, then an apology should be forthcoming (even if it's not sincere).

I'd say how I feel about the Muslim culture at this point in time, but I'm afraid I'd get banned for not being respectful... Freedom of speech FTW.

Suffice it to say that the Muslim world has lots of problems, and the Pope was absolutely justified in his comments. He must've known they'd be provocative, but he has no need to apologize.

The pope should apologize for still supporting ridiculous beliefs such as "masturbation is a mortal sin." He should apologize for the fact that celibacy probably plays a big factor in why some priests end up molesting young members of their faith.

Asking him to apologize for statements that suggest one religion isn't as good as another is quite frankly ridiculous. Religious leaders make their bread and butter by having follewers who believe that their religion is the "one." Expecting them to stop doing that is sadly expecting way too much.

We're in total agreement here. The Catholic Church should also apologize for its troglodyte views toward science, and for it being responsible for the deaths of millions of African AIDS victims because of lack of sex education.

But for saying something Muslims didn't like? Hell no.

There is no reason to apologize. Religions are in competition and Islam is most recently advertising what a violent religion it can be.

Christians think Muslims are going to hell the same as Muslims think Christians are goign to hell. Accept it and move on.

Where was the outrage of the destruction of buddist monuments by the taliban thats disrespecting someones belief in a completly obvous form.

wheres the respect for others beliefs.

Are we gonna see a wave a catholic suicide bombings for the burning down of churches?

Not meaning to offend anyone here but....yea right...;)

The Catholic Church is responsible for the deaths of millions of Africans?

I'm no Catholic here but that does seem to be stretching it a bit, no?

In fact, it sounds rather rediculous to me.

It is very ridiculous.

For The Win. Used in internet slang to follow something you consider good. Similarly, FTL (For the Loss) is used following something you consider to be bad.

The Catholic Church's position on sex education in Africa is absolutely disgusting. They'd rather people die than have sex outside of marriage. Thanks to the Catholic Church, a good portion of US government aid, and some Catholic charities, only goes to organizations that promote abstinence-only sex education.

Yeah, African women with no rights at all are supposed to "just say no" to avoid getting AIDS.

**** the Catholic Church. **** them in the ear.

I believe some elaboration is in order on this comment.

I hear ya on the Catholic Chrurch bro but I never knew Africa was a Catholic nation. I thought they worshipped idols, voodoo and Totem poles and whatnot.

It's the Catholic's fault those Monkey Fu**er's can keep their dicks in their loin cloths?

**** them in the ear.

I suppose that's one way to prevent AIDS.

So it's the Catholic Churches fault that Africans can't take personal responsibility. Stop blaming Catholics for a problem they didn't cause.

Yes, because the Catholic Church refuses to show them how to take personal responsibility (by teaching them about condoms), and discourages others from doing so.

They have made the problem worse by propagating false ideas about AIDS prevention, like the only way to prevent AIDS is to not have sex.

Everyone should take notice of this poll. Aquapub has done an excellent job with many of the poll options of providing several reasons why it was a stupid idea to try and forefully democratize the Middle East and go into Iraq. He provided many examples of how absurd the Neo-Conservative foreign policy goals are.

Kudos to Aquapub for doing so.

This problem could easily be solved if Africa did not have to rely on so much Catholic Aid. I personally have trouble faulting the Catholics on this because they are there providing AID and thus they provide what they feel is best. Though they may be misguided with their policy there is absolutely nothing stopping other groups from getting in there and promoting condem use.....or feeding the hungry for that matter.

While a lot of lives could be saved if condom use was better promoted in Africa, I still have to agree with you. Catholic Charities is one of the largest aid organizations in the world. In fact, I think the only bigger one is the U.N. World Food Program.

Globally, I think you're right.

But did you know there is a very quiet Charitable organization here in the US that donates unbelievable sums of money and services without advertising their self-rightousness?

The organizations which make up the Family of Freemasonry support or contribute to many, many charities. Throughout the United States, Masons contribute in excess of $2,000,000 per DAY to a great variety of charities. This charitable support is sometimes visible and at other times not so. The many members of the Family of Freemasonry are proud to contribute to and support these charities <snip> http://www.calodges.org/no442/MasonicInformation/MasonicCharities.htm

That is very true. Before criticizing a group, one should look at the good they do. For example, a lot of people say the U.N. should be abolished. However if we did so, tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of people, mostly children, would die of starvation the first year alone.
