The CIA and FBI are interrogating suspects at secret prisons in Ethiopia, and several other African nations, known world-wide for their torture techniques. These suspects include at least one American citizen, as well as citizens of Canada, Sweden, and France.

Although trying to root out al-Qaeda suspects is a good thing to do, there is a point where it crosses all lines of ethical and moral behavior. We have, once again, crossed the line. Allies refer to the prisons as a decentralized, outsourced Guantanamo. The Bush administration claims that these are al-Qaeda suspects which were never "officially" in US custody when interrogated, but our allies are telling stories which are much different. And, what about the suspects themselves? Many are being released later, without charges, after being kidnapped and sent to the prisons, often on evidence as flimsy as an unsupported statement from someone who just didn't like them.

We were once a beacon for freedom, and an example for the rest of the world to follow. Now, the only examples we provide to the world are Soviet-style gulags.
