Seriously, I wonder why the Pentagon has to hold these sales in the first place, without any background checking of prospective buyers. So what happens? These so-called "middlemen" turn around and sell to whoever they can make a buck from, including Iran.

"The fact that those individuals chose to violate the law and the fact that the customs people caught them really indicates that the process is working," said Baillie, the Defense Logistics Agency's executive director of distribution. "Customs is supposed to check all exports to make sure that all the appropriate certifications and licenses had been granted."

For sure the Customs agency are catching some of these companies, but one still needs to wonder whether they are catching all of the instances, we need to know if any of these products may be reaching Iran.
And why oh why do they simply not destroy those spares that are specifically for those F-14 aircraft that we are told are only used by Iran?
I feel sure there must be some explanation?

Good point, just because we caught some instances of this doesn't mean we have caught or will catch every instance.

Because they want money.

You think the defense industry is beholden to anyone? They will just as easily sell tinfoil covered crap at premium prices to us as they will functioning weapons to our enemies.

Very true. (I'm psychic)

Ah, out comes the spokesman, but that still does not explain why we sold spare helicopter parts to a man who had previously been caught selling spare parts for fighter jets to Iran. After getting caught once we sell him parts that, again, go to Iran. Baillie can say whatever he wants, but it does not mitigate in the least the facts.
