AOC: U.S. parental leave 'treats people worse than dogs'

THAT was what we called reality of the time and era they lived in.

Heres a better more realistic example for you...10,11, 12 year olds today raised on farms and ranches still getting up and working...learning the value of hard work...and developing strong family values that sustain them through life. that is still something that happens today. Or a dad and mom that expect their kids to do chores at home, provide an allowance, teach the value of work, budgeting, money management.

Yeah...that stuff still happens.
 

If it were up to folks like Vance, debt slavery would be a thing.

Then again, being revolted by the meek is a character flaw of the right wing.

let's upgrade our current regime of unemployment compensation so employers have no direct unemployment compensation burden because it could be administered by the public sector with a fund for that purpose.
 

Great. Mowing a lawn at your house is a little different than being shipped off to a coal mine at 10 years old to develop black lung and die in your 30s. Things have progressed.

What AOC is calling for is another form of progress. She believes America is capable of standing up and offering mothers the same thing that nations all around the world, both rich and poor, seem to have been perfectly able to handle. Paid family leave.

Seriously, you don't find it embarrassing that nations like Mexico and Costa Rica can offer weeks and weeks of paid leave, but America offers nothing at all?

It's not even progress. It's common ****ing sense. Why is it Exxon Mobile, or ISRAEL is entitled to my tax dollars when they already have universal healthcare and guaranteed 100% paternity and maternity pay?

that should never have happened. personally my thought is I will not allow us to regress to a nation of robber barons. if we are to become that i would rather go with full democratic socialism.
take ALL MONIES and divide it evenly to everyone, with perhaps more for innovators who come up with proven ideas as the ONLY standout.

We do it. For Israel. Germany, and every other goddamned nation on that list, or did you just ignore that?

Tell me, why in the everblack ****, are you supporting sending our tax dollars to Israel, which Israel then uses to fund Single Payer and MA/PAternity leave for their citizens?

I want an explanation to that question, here and now.

Moreover, I am a taxpayer. I get to say where my taxes go. I don't want MY TAX DOLLARS going to pay for exxon mobile or anyone else when they rake in billions in profits, if I can't even get one goddamned week of paid leave for having kids.

We started developing benefits in 1937, so all those things (what we have now) is from long process. At first it was just about pensions, so everything else (housing benefits, student benefits, child benefits, so on..) are just add-on's.

My tax dollars are flowing to nations that give their citizens these things.

Why, on earth, do they have it, and we don't? Why, on earth, are my taxes going to them, so you can claim some paltry high horse BS?
 

I think if you look around at the reality that wealth is more concentrated at the top than it has been at any point since the run up to the Great Depression, you will see we are already a nation of robber barons. Americans are working for less and less each year as cost of living outpaces increases in wages.
 

Generally speaking it's a difference in ideology and priority. Here we cherish the idea of individualism and personal responsibility, so more of these issues are seen as something each individual must sort out on their own. Other countries view it as investing in their own people so they set up these types of benefits because those citizens also see the value they get out of it as well.

I think taxes should be as low as possible. And that social programs in general are a waste

With social programs you can reduce (some) inequality as it's not a goal in any society.
 

What's silly is your inability to discuss an issue without being hyper emotional and insulting. It is not the tax payers job to pay for parents to take time off from work it is the parents. Why you have this view that holding individuals as responsible for their own lives as something evil says nothing good about you.

What do you believe happens to the tens of millions of desperate people in this country without a social safety net? That they just die, as quietly as possible and out of sight of course as to not disturb you? That we should take that money and ensure the rich have an even more massive slice of the pie?
 

Yeah I do, the Dems don't have the Senate, don't have the WH and I'm betting after this farce of an impeachment mess they'll find themselves back out of power. Adults don't want to be babied, even if you think they should be.
