“I hereby second the nomination for Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont for President of the United States of America,” the New York Democratic socialist said at the end of her 60-second address.

While Kamala as VP was a stab in the eye to progressives/the FDR wing and police reform, as was giving John Kasich quadruple the speaking time of AOC despite Democrats only being half as interested in hearing him speak at the convention, and a solid majority not wanting to hear from him at all: https://twitter.com/daveweigel/status/1295008521600282624 , I would say there's at least an understanding, even among relatively hard line Sanders supporters and social democrats, that a truce has to be brokered such that Trump is defeated. I have no love for Biden and find him unequal to the highest office in the known universe, and I utterly despise Kamala, knowing full and well her terrible history of corrupt, career climbing psychopathy as AG where she condemned innocents, withheld evidence, looked the other way in the face of evidence fabrication and attempted to defy federal orders to address prison overcrowding in favour of retaining jail labour, but the fact is that as bad as they are, the alternative is unthinkably worse, so I will be voting for Joe regardless.

That the party may well come to blows with itself after the election though is readily conceivable, especially as long time, entrenched and powerful establishment incumbents continue to be primaried and beaten by progressive challengers in down ballot races, with prominent old guard Democrats close to Pelosi like Engels and William Lacy Clay having recently been defeated.

There's an old political adage for Democrats that is campaign to the left during the primaries, then move toward the center during the general election campaign. Moving left during the general would be a mistake for Biden. I know the progressives would like it, but percentage wise, they make up a lot smaller portion of the total electorate than independents do. Generally speaking, not all, independents ideological wise are somewhere in-between the two major parties.

Hillary made this mistake by staying left during the general trying to placate Sanders supporters. Hence she lost the independent vote and the election. This gets little to no attention when it comes to reasons why Hillary lost. Biden has his good size lead because independents view him as a moderate along with viewing Trump with a very distasteful personality and having very unpresidential behavior. Those two together has helped Biden to an almost 10 point lead at the moment. The dislike of Trump as a person, as an individual, disliking the man himself and viewing Biden as an adult with moderate political views in line with the average American Joe.

Trump's only hope as of today, is to have Biden move left so his negative personal attacks of being a socialist will have something to stick to, to adhere to. Trump must win the independent vote or lose the election, the Democrats are still the larger party. Without winning independents, Trump is a dead duck. Remember Joe, keep moving toward the center.

I've been filling this site with the opinion that this election is all about Trump and his obnoxious, uncouth personality, his child like antics of throwing temper tantrums and calling others names. His very unpresidential behavior. Not so much his policies or what he has or hasn't done as president. I have no reason to doubt that half of Biden's supporters don't like Trump. That would be true regardless of who the Democrats nominated.

Biden's strength, he isn't Trump nor is he Hillary Clinton. He's also viewed as a moderate more in line with America as a whole. Up to this point, this election has been all about Trump's personality. The dislike of Trump as a person, an individual, the man himself. Perhaps I'm trying to look at this as a normal election which it isn't. No election with Trump involved is a normal election. But I'll stick by that old political adage.

So time will tell, If Biden goes left then we'll see how it turns out. If Biden stays more or less as a moderate, we'll see how that turns out also.

Her role in seconding Sanders’s nomination was strictly procedural. Sanders suspended his presidential campaign more than four months ago and has since endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden. Convention rules require formal nominations for any candidate who surpasses a set delegate threshold.

In a pair of tweets posted after her speech in favor of Sanders’s nomination was aired, Ocasio-Cortez made note of the convention rules and said that she had been asked to second the Vermont senator’s nomination, calling the experience “an absolute honor.”

She congratulated Biden, saying that she is looking forward to fighting for our future together and reclaiming our democracy in November.

Those Republicans came together with Democrats because they are patriots, as opposed to Trump sycophants like the rest of the GOP, and are disturbed at the extent to which Trump has debauched the presidency, our system of norms and democracy.

Yesterday, the Republican controlled Senate revealed that the president lied to the Special Counsel and his 2016 campaign was working with the Russians for his re-election. In a previous time, that would have been Earth-shattering news forcing a president to resign. Now, it's a shrug because the public has become so sensitized to wrongdoing at the Trump White House.
