Because I did!!!!!!
No really it has been so bad even cap and ball revolvers and muzzle loading kentucky rifle replicas have been sold out! The local pawnshop near me still has guns but sometimes upwards of 1500 bucks for a highpoint that is normally 140 bucks new, and they only let one person in at a time escorted due to people trying to attack the clerks or steal firearms in broad daylight through force.
But I literally just bought a gun today, a maverick 88 in 20 guage, not only was it in stock there were about 20 of them there, as well as numerous rifles and shotguns, while the 88 online and in every other store in the area is sold out and expecting new stock over a month from now. Want to know where it is? well it is walmart ofcourse.
Walmart gun buying is like finding waldo, but not only do you have to find waldo in the walmart who runs the outdoor section but you have to find waldo's manager who is even more hidden because he has the key. The process in many walmart locations makes it such an obstacle that many will not buy from them and they have full stock. A month ago I even asked the walmart guy how many of xyz break barrel shotguns they had and he said like 30-40, and said they had not restocked them in over 2 years, and this was at a time when gun stores were lucky to have any guns on the shelf.
Point of this thread, it is not handguns or ar rifles, but if you need a rifle or shotgun, walmarts around the country are actually surprisingly stocked, simply for the reason walmarts are so poorly run most gun buyers give up waiting or searching for the person who actually can open the gun case. If you can not find that shotgun or rifle elsewhere try walmart and be patient.
