IIRC, during my time armor crewmen didn't have M16s issued. I know for sure they didn't have them during OSUT. We issued M1911A1s and M3A1s to the 19K trainees. Their qualification was with the M1911A1. Cav Scout trainees (19D) did qualify with the M16A1 though.

The 19K's I was around had rifles, except for the drivers.
