I have a question. Are we Americans so screwed up in the head that we need drugs to combat the normal and routine feelings of sadness during winter months which many people experience?

Will the government next be telling us that happiness is abnormal and requires drug treatment?

This is just ridiculous, and and also a dangerous precedent to set. The drugging of America continues unabated.

Article is here.

Just because GSK or Pfizer can come up with a "disorder" or "condition" for every undesireable mood or feeling, doesnt mean its some kinda forced drugging of America.

If people wanna shell out god knows how much for a pill that makes them hate grey days less, more power to em. I just think its a waste of money, and this drive to make everything a "disease" is just a ploy to sell more pills.

But hey, I like pills...

Actually, Seasonal Affective Disorder has been recognized for years by the APA. I think what we have here is a pharmaceutical company marketing to a disorder which they do all the time. Bastages.

Oh goodie, more drugs.

I'm pretty sure I suffer from SAD but I wont be taking any pills for it. You're more apt to find me doing something like, *gasp*, working out.

Amazing isn't it.

Working out is excellent. Full spectrum lighting works as well.

The government is not telling us anything. A drug companies is marketing a product to treat SAD. This is a simple change to the use for an already approved drug....what is the "dangerous precedent?"

Not everyone responds to more conservative treatment. It's ridiculous that they have access to a treatment that might work for them? You may not ever need an anti-depressant, but that doesn't mean nobody else will.

It pays to be an informed medical consumer, just like any other product or service you may buy. If you don't need it, don't buy it. For those who DO need it, it could significantly improve their lives. I see no down side to this at all.
