This is definitely the last throes of the Bush administration and the Republicans in particular. The tide is turning and the pendulum is swinging back to the liberals, this war is is spelling doom for the r-wingers and Iraq will be their downfall. Anti-war songs are slowly permeating our culture again.

Is this country great, or what?

Go Cindy Sheehan... Rock on GREEN DAY!

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,11069-1755960,00.html

GREEN DAY, the anti-war punk rockers, swept the MTV Video Music Awards in a sign that American popular culture is turning against US presence in Iraq.
The Californian band won seven awards for their anti-war album American Idiot and the single The Boulevard of Broken Dreams, including Best Rock Video, Best Group Video, Video of the Year and the Viewer’s Choice Award.

Accepting the awards at the ceremony in Miami on Sunday night, the band members noted that they had been playing together for 16 years before the success of their latest album. “I think it struck a note right now,” bassist Mike Dirnt said. “Here’s to our soldiers. Let’s bring them home safe.”

The group has attracted much comment because their video, Wake Me Up When September Ends, about a soldier separated from his loved one by the war, is the most requested song on the music channel.

Despite Green Day’s anti-war message, the annual MTV extravaganza was overshadowed by violence. Saturday night’s shooting of Marion “Suge” Knight at a party in a Miami nightclub was feared by many to be a renewal of the East Coast-West Coast rap wars of the 1990s.

The awards ceremony was presented by Sean Combs, now calling himself Diddy. Lil’ Kim arrived in a Rolls-Royce for one of her last outings before she begins a year-long sentence for perjury for lying about a shooting in New York.

Perhaps the strangest moment came when R. Kelly, who is soon to go on trial on child pornography charges, lip-synched to his song Trapped in The Closet about a cheating wife, a cheating husband and his boyfriend.

Yeah I agree. MTV sucks. Besides they probably heard that one or two songs and liked it. Probalby don't even understand what the songs mean. You'll actually find most punk bands are liberal. My signature is a quote from a very influential punk/ska band called Operation Ivy actually.

Quite true. If you base your political beliefs in the network that brought you The Real World and Jackass, then you probably are not competent to vote.

i was agreeing with him, saying that MTV drones aren't competent to breathe

so do you wear little girl pants and thick ugly black rimmed glasses

those are the kind of guys i pick fights with when i'm drinking

because i know i can kick their ass

i'm not threatening to beat you up, i'm just explaining to you the nature of my typical contact with emo ska lady pants wearing guys with faux hawks

you're perfectly safe unless you somehow end up next to me in a bar

. . . . . .nobody I know wears that. . . .and besides I don't think I would have to worry about my safety if your drunk. You can hardly type as it is.

You just made my night. Thank you very much. And I apologize sincerly to all forum members that had to witness this confrontation of different musical tastes.

Obviously from your more recent posts you're around that age. So you should care?

ska is the second worst form of music known to man

the absolute worst is emo
That's funny! I wonder what music you listen to!
I believe I can find more disgusting music, you've obviously never heard of the band "!!!".
I'm not entitled to your opinion, but you're entitled to mine.

Yeah, that's right that shows your supremacy. Go pick fights with people who just so happen to be a bit feminine than the average human (but a bit more man-like then yourself)

Whoa slow down Bam! You've got some serious issues if you only drink in order to fight, are you the new-aged Popeye? Your tolerance for others is at a staggering low, you should probably re-think your life... notice that just because people could care-less what you think they're not your enimies.

Honestly, Keep this as non-personal as possible. I only responded like I did to help out Finn, further actions will be taken if I see such non-sense from you Coup

"dude"?

Are you in 4th grade?

You cannot criticize someone about age and write "dude".

Most of Green Day's fans are over thirteen and are of voting age. The war is the message here and Green Day is representing the 18 to 34 year olds while the Rolling Stones, who are also anti-war/Bush, are covering the rest of the rockers.

The Dixie Chicks are taking care of country folks while Public Enemy and Outkast are doing their anti war rap!

Anti-war protest songs by mainstream popular artists are growing by leaps and bounds.

If only Frank Sinatra were alive I'm sure he'd join the crowd!

No need to apologize. He doesn't get into bars.. he's only 18 Years Old. He may be able to drink illegally, but then I'd bet he isn't much of a harm. We have a text-book definition for his type "E-Thug" just a stage above "patehtic"!

Anti-War Protest Songs.. oh my! They're just music.. if people want to follow them religously, then be my guest. If I followed my Band's Music religiously then I'd be trying to start Armaggedon.

Heck, I even wrote the lyrics.

Actually, the second worst music is the fusion of Country music and Rock. Its known as CROCK. The worst is the fusion of Country music and Rap. I will let you guess that that is known as. :)

dude i'm total wuss. which is why i apreciate emos so much.

If voting for a band based on their political ideas instead of their music is the trendy thing to do...then why are they given music awards?

I know what some are going to say..."Because their music IS good!"...

And to THAT, my question would be...

If they got music awards for being good at music, why is this posted in the article?

GREEN DAY, the anti-war punk rockers, swept the MTV Video Music Awards in a sign that American popular culture is turning against US presence in Iraq.

Is it both? Then why isn't called the "MTV Music/Political Awareness Awards" or something like that?

And why is this news?...If most all punk bands are Liberal, and indeed, most of the entertainment industry is Liberal, I think if someone OTHER than a Liberal winning an award would make news...not something that was expected to happen...

Because you like "Emo"s or we like to call "People with tend to like more emotional type music" doesn't mean you're a wuss. Hating them because of what they are makes you a wuss and intolerant.

Am I the only one who was stunned, stumped and dumbfounded to find out that Green Day're "punk rockers"?

Are you saying that you get annoyed when people are grouped and "classed" together when, in actually, they can be far from the intended mindset?
