The same group which banded together in 2004 to form a group called Vietnam Vets Against John Kerry, have now formed a group called Vietnam Vets Against John McCain. Their plan is to paint McCain as a Manchurian candidate.

I wouldn't vote for McCain, and I don't like his politics, but jeez..... to run that kind of despicable smear attack on him is way over the line. I would like to know who is really backing this group. Could it be the same group that smeared McCain in 2000 as the father of an illegitimate black baby during the South Carolina primary that year?

With these kinds of strategies, the Republican party, along with it's supporters, seems intent on destroying itself.

What slime!!

Wasn't it the same people behind the Swiftboat liars that smeared McCain in his run against GWB?

I don't know about them being heroes..but their credibility has been called into question more then one time due to their actions and statements

Swift Vets and POWs for Truth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A major part of the SBVT controversy centered on what some believe was inconsistent and misleading testimony. Among the first to question the veracity of the first ad was Republican Senator John McCain, a Bush supporter, Vietnam veteran, and former POW. He said, "I condemn the [SBVT] ad, it is dishonest and dishonorable, I think it is very, very wrong". [11] As a naval aviator in Vietnam, McCain had no firsthand knowledge of Kerry's service. The SBVT statements were accompanied by sworn affidavits, although one affiant, Al French, later admitted he had no firsthand knowledge of what he had sworn to [12].

The first SBVT ad was contradicted by the statements of several other veterans who observed the incidents, by the Navy's official records, and, in some instances, by the contemporaneous statements of SBVT members themselves.

Several major newspapers were also skeptical of the SBVT allegations. For example, a New York Times news article stated, "on close examination, the accounts of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth prove to be riddled with inconsistencies." [13] ABC News's The Note opined, "the Swift Boat ad and their primary charges about Kerry's medals are personal, negative, extremely suspect, or false." [14] Regarding the medal dispute, a Los Angeles Times editorial (August 24, 2004, p. B10) stated, "Not limited by the conventions of our colleagues in the newsroom, we can say it outright: These charges against John Kerry are false." The editorial argued this position on the basis that "Kerry is backed by almost all those who witnessed the events in question, as well as by documentation." On August 22, 2004 The Washington Post reported: "An investigation by The Washington Post into what happened that day suggests that both sides have withheld information from the public record and provided an incomplete, and sometimes inaccurate, picture of what took place. But although Kerry's accusers have succeeded in raising doubts about his war record, they have failed to come up with sufficient evidence to prove him a liar."

Jerome Corsi has said that a picture of Kerry's 1993 visit to Vietnam hangs in the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City as a gesture of "honor" by the communists "for his contribution to their victory over [the] United States" [21], and John O'Neill has stated that Kerry "is in the North Vietnamese war museum as a hero. . . . one of the heroes who caused them to win the war in Vietnam" [22]. The statement is also repeated in "Unfit for Command" (pp 167-174). However, Josh Gerstein of the New York Sun stated in this regard:

"While the museum clearly honors opponents of the war from America and other countries, it is not clear that the photo of Mr. Kerry is part of that tribute. The picture of the senator hangs among a set of photos devoted to the restoration of diplomatic relations between America and Vietnam in the 1990s.

It was apparently taken as Mr. Kerry took part in a delegation President Clinton sent to Hanoi in 1993. Other photos nearby show visits during that period by former American officials who played key roles in the Vietnam War, including a Navy admiral who has since died, Elmo Zumwalt, and a defense secretary, Robert McNamara. A secretary of state during Mr. Clinton’s term, Warren Christopher, is also shown meeting Vietnamese officials." [23]

This is why McCain is dead set against these 527 groups...and that's why they are terrified of him. I for one support John McCain. So far he is the most impressive Republican in the running, in my opinion.

French, 58, a senior deputy district attorney, appeared in the recent ad by the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth and said: "I served with John Kerry. . . . He is lying about his record." French also signed a legal affadavit attesting to the claim.

But French, in an interview with The Oregonian newspaper last week, said he was relying on the accounts of three other veterans when he said Kerry lied.

"I was not a witness to these events but my friends were," said French, who was awarded two Bronze Stars during the war.

That acknowledgement fueled Monday's protest, where the veterans contended French is unfit to serve as a prosecutor after swearing to facts that he never personally witnessed.

These people are swine. Garbage. But they will have backers, and a lot of people will believe them. The one who confronted the woman basketball player says he will make no money on this thing. He's lying already.

The Bush/Rove do-absolutely-anything-to-win machine used some of the same tactics on McCain in the Republican primaries in 1999. They questioned his military loyalty, and implied he was gay. This is the way politics is going. I hope you're right, that somebody will pay for this behavior.

Perhaps as time goes on, the Vets who are against McCain will bring to light:

Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry

"Sen. John F. Kerry, chairman of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, is one of the key figures pushing for normalization. Kerry is currently on a visit to Vietnam where he has been doing two things:

(1) praising the Vietnamese effusively for granting access to their war archives and

(2) telling the press that there's no believable evidence to back up the stories of live POWs still being held.

"Ironically, that very kind of live-POW evidence has been brought to Kerry's own committee on a regular basis over the past year, and he has repeatedly sought to impeach its value.

Moreover, Kerry and his allies on the committee - such as Sens. John McCain, Nancy Kassebaum and Tom Daschle - have worked to block much of this evidence from being made public."

He gave orders to his committee staff to shred crucial intelligence documents. The shredding stopped only when some intelligence staffers staged a protest. Some wrote internal memos calling for a criminal investigation. One such memo—from John F. McCreary, a lawyer and staff intelligence analyst—reported that the committee's chief counsel, J. William Codinha, a longtime Kerry friend, "ridiculed the staff members" and said, "Who's the injured party?" When staffers cited "the 2,494 families of the unaccounted-for U.S. servicemen, among others," the McCreary memo continued, Codinha said: "Who's going to tell them? It's classified."

What is your problem? Wikipedia a "left wing site"? How do you live in your world? Anyone or anything that doesn't agree with you is "left wing"?

The Swift Boaters have been condemned by both parties and exposed for being what they are; partisans with an agenda....typical Karl Rove and Dick Cheney; spread lies over and over and over and some people are bound to believe them due to the repetition of the lies...Reagan started the strategy and Rove and Cheney had it down until their lies caught up with them.

Gee what a tough choice? Do I believe two US Senators, one of which came within one state's electoral votes of becoming President and one of which is considered by virtually everyone in both parties an amazing Vietnam war hero or do you I believe partisan hacks who blame Kerry for coming back after Vietnam and honestly expressing his point of view that the Vietnam war was wrong, a nightmare and that he witnessed atrocities? Hell the vast majority of Americans know that the Vietnam war was wrong, that acts were committed that were unspeakable (until people had the guts to stand up)....much like today's Iraq war.

McCain? I would never vote for him but I would never, ever denigrate his service and cannot imagine the horrors he lived through all those years as a POW.

I can recall Forum members like Navy Pride putting down "lefties" for disrespecting Vietnam war vets yet when Conservatives do the very same thing he praises them as heroes?

McCain is the hero, the swift boaters are the villians.

Talk your way out of that one.....

How abstract and absurd is it to write over and over again that a decorated war veteran who has been a US Senator for decades and came "this" close to being elected president in 2004 is a "traitor"?

When I read the hate-filled crap about Kerry that you write NP it puts a smile on my face because it must really, really tick you off that this man you truly believe is a "traitor" wields so much power in our government.

If the election were held today who do you think would win? Bush or Kerry? Let's say that we had 7 year terms do you think Bush would be re-electable?

Bush's "popularity" is at historic lows and a strong majority of Americans eagerly await his departure praying that there's still an America around in January 2009!

McCain is now facing the same sort of illegitimate attack against him by the exact same people that attacked Kerry and you support those guys so that means that you also put down Vietnam Vet John McCain so you're not fooling anyone except maybe yourself.

McCain told the Associated Press, "'It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me'... referring to his [McCain's] bitter Republican primary fight with President Bush," according to the AP. As Conason reported on May 4, "The 'swift boat' veterans attacking John Kerry's war record are led by veteran right-wing operatives using the same vicious techniques they used against John McCain four years ago." Conason explained that Spaeth (the group's media contact) participated during the 2000 Republican primary contest in TV ads that "falsely attack[ed]" McCain's environmental record in California, New York, and Ohio.

McCain might have been referring as well to attacks on his military record by Ted Sampley and Thomas Burch, both Vietnam veterans, during the 2000 primary season. As Media Matters for America previously reported, Sampley hounded McCain as a "Manchurian Candidate" -- suggesting that the decorated veteran and former prisoner of war was a brainwashed communist agent -- and was convicted for misdemeanor assault related to an attack on one of McCain's legislative aides. Sampley is the leader of a group called Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry. During the 2000 Republican primary in South Carolina, Burch, according to a February 22 report in the Chicago Tribune, "stood with George W. Bush at his side and accused Sen. John McCain of Arizona of opposing health care for Persian Gulf war veterans and blocking efforts to locate POW-MIAs, saying the former prisoner of war "came home from Vietnam and forgot us."

I get the impression from your endless posts that you just want propoganda that you can spout off that fits your distorted views of the world.

For someone who loves to claim that we shouldn't look at polls...etc...you love to try to claim FoxNews ratings mean that you should believe them.....a little hypocritical in my view.
Maybe....just like right-wing radio....its because right-wings love to sit around at home on their butts listening and watching propoganda? hmmmm......that could explain it.
At least I don't claim to get my news from a wacko loony like Sean Hannity....but does that make you proud?
