That's right. Anybody who would limit freedom of any kind is lower than a worm. I used to think that there should be some limits. Such as in a promotion for pedophilia. But now, I say **** it. If you aren't allowed to say things that are objectionable to a lesser degree, you should be allowed to say anything. I will show you what some people had to say about free speech. Do you agree or disagree with them.

I have a bonus picture and quote for you.

The usual argument, is that one has free speech, but one has to be aware and accept the consequences of speaking one's mind.
As long as what a person says/writes does not cause physical injury or death, then a person should have the freedom to express whatever they wish. The idea today seems to be that a person has free speech, but, if they DARE to exercise that free speech then that person will most likely lose their job, their friends, their future income (because everything is recorded now), perhaps their family, then THAT IS NOT FREE SPEECH.
We have a prackie in the staffroom at the moment, and the discussion was on what was deemed politically incorrect in today's society (the conversations teachers have during a lunch break can be interesting). I stated that because they are all lefties/socialists, they can say whatever they want, but because I am a conservative, if I said what I thought, then I would lose my job. He stared at me, and being a prackie he had the common sense to keep his opinion to himself, but I have an idea of what he now thinks of me.
Free speech means free speech and it doesn't matter if it offends someone's fragile little ego. We do not have free speech in either Australia or America, no matter how people argue that we do.

For the most part, there is freedom of speech but not freedom from consequence. Let's examine your example of pedophilia.

For the most part, you can promote the ides of free-love & hardcore sex with children via oration or writings or music or whatever all day without fear of being arrested. However, do it loud enough and you just might find yourself ostracized, unemployable, driven out of neighborhoods, etc.

IMO, that is how it should be.

There is no such thing as complete free speech. Even you put a limit on it.

Many americans have proved themselves to be even to stupid to listen let alone speak. Otherwise they would not have an idiot for a president. Talking **** seems to be the major sport of the country. And no one seems inclined to limit that.

But australia? What specifly is the problem there?

Of course people should have the right to speak their mind. This doesn't mean other people are going to like what you say...

No matter what it is or where it may lead, truth is always best. Always! Without any doubt.

Free speech is okay with me as long as they're not climate deniers or anti-vaxxers. Those people need to be banned.

Flark any consequences. Truth has no negative consequences. What if I told you the truth. What if I told you that tens of thousands of White children have been murdered and will continue to be murdered here in the U.S. by negroes. What if I told you that though blacks make up about 14% of the population, they are responsible for over 50% of the crimes committed. What if I told you that to make things better here in the U.S., we should impale or deport all of the human subspecies Homo negrosis. (negroes) Making things better isn't a negative consequence.

You shouldn't be telling me this. You should be telling every moderator at just about every forum that exists. Then prepare to be ignored by them.

No. I say let the human caused global warming deniers and anti vaccine idiots speak all they want. Not being in the right, what they have to say means nothing. Any debate with them will end badly for them.

You're being very fair. But on many forums you get banned for not following the prescribed regimen.

What about something even more extreme? Suppose someone says a trans woman is not actually a woman? Should I ...oops ...that person be ostracised, be made unemployable etc. etc..?

So you don't think free speech should be allowed. You should stop pretending to be a libertarian forthwith if not sooner.

Forums are typically privately owned. The owner has the right to limit speech if they choose. It sucks, but not much can be done about it, and the echo chamber effect just adds to the polarization.

If all speech is fine then I have the right to go up to anyone's wife and call them a "whore" and I should expect everyone about me to be absolutely fine with that.
In the real world doing that will see me being punched in the face for obvious reasons.

Speech is restricted all the time for good reason and total free speech is not a good thing.

Forums are also mostly open to all so many things are obviously unacceptable.
I was a mod on a games forum for many years and we had to ban people for many things with driveby porn posting being popular back then.
As a games forum it had some young members and for obvious reasons, certain things are just not welcome.

Libel and slander laws. Freedom of speech doesnt protect you from professional and social consequences.

Posting dozens of quotes that are often misattributed is a form of quote mining. Not that impressive.

The problem with the marketplace of ideas concept is truth is not the currency, attention is. Every time i hear about “silencing” is some crank whining about consequences on social media or in academia where if you spout utter horse ****, your professional credentials will be revoked.

Some truths are better left unsaid.

Hell the op’s “truths” are very much not truths. The op is just a sock puppet.
