When it comes to climate science, we’re always going to be at a “tipping point.”
It's typical climate cult propaganda. Throw in the words "crisis," "tipping point," "catastrophe" to further put fear into readers gullible enough to believe these false, hyperbolic stories in order to further their agenda.

A glacier is land based. It is not floating ice. The ice shelf attached to the glacier is not floating unless it extends out to where the ocean is deeper. The the ocean is shallow where the glacier meets the sea and the ice shelf extending from the glacier is so massive and heavy it is resting on the ocean floor not floating.

A cubic mile of ice contains 110,111,713,711 gallons of water. Antarctica has 7,200,000 cubic miles of land based (non floating) ice. Greenland has about 750,000 cubic miles of land based ice.

Adding ice to a glass of water without ice raises the level of water, even before it melts.
The link at the original post says:

"A robotic submarine has returned from the dark underbelly of one of Antarctica's largest
glaciers with chilling news — it could be melting faster than we previously thought."

The tone of the article at the link implies that this "melting" is something new caused
by carbon dioxide and climate change. What evidence is there that this phenomenon
is something new in the last 100 years?

In addition, if it was observed from a robotic submarine, it is certainly over water!

When it comes to climate science, we’re always going to be at a “tipping point.”
No worries, we passed said “tipping point” long ago. What’s left now is waiting for the carnage, some of which has already begun.

Deniers don’t get it. That’s obvious.

12 years

They key to the 12 year claim, as I understand it, is that we won't necessarily SEE anything different in 12 years. Life will look very much as it does right now. Just that in 12 years (or so) we will have passed some points beyond which we will be severely hampered in how we can deal with climate change.

As an example: let's say you have an infected tooth. It starts to hurt but you put off going to the dentist. If you went when it first started to hurt perhaps a root canal would be al you would need to save the tooth. But you wait a while longer. Sure it's painful but you do it. Then when you go in the tooth is too far gone and you need an extraction.

The point is: there was a point in time at which it tipped over the edge and a simpler, better solution WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE to you.

That was a nice watering down job of what she said

Then we're doomed right?

China will not stop what they're doing

Now we only have 10 years(LOL)

Honestly I couldn't care less what AOC says about climate science. Anymore than I care what Al Gore says about it.

I was merely pointing out what the SCIENTISTS who originally noted it were likely meaning.

The article is about 2 years old

Couple points:

1. We are not doomed yet. But the longer we have to debate settled science with scientific illiterates the worse the choices get.
2. China is not responsible for the majority of the warming we've seen. They are now a major contributor but the last 150 years are on the US and western Europe (learn history). Besides is your morality "I'll just do whatever whatever the worst people are doing and call it a day"?
3. 12-2 =/= 0

Deniers don’t get it. That’s obvious.
We get that climate cultists are always wrong:

An article back in 1989 that claimed the same tipping point- Maldives would be underwater, etc. Didnt happen.

Good! We have now established that 12-2 = 10. That's fantastic.

If I gave you 12 apples and then two of them rotted away you'd have 10 apples left! Yum!

Good for you! I'm serious. It's fantastic when a young person discovers the wonders of math! Keep up and build on this introduction. That's fantastic.

But don't stop there! 12-3=9

12-4 = 8

Can you guess what 12-5 will be?

How about 12-10? (There's an interesting one because it uses some of the numbers you've seen before!!!

What do you think will happen when we take 12-12?

OOoooo! This is going to be exciting!

But math isn't all just "minus"...there's all sorts of fun things you can do with numbers! Stay in school!

10 years to Doomsday

10 years to Doomsday

Nope. You didn't actually read my post. But I understand...Reading can be HARD! Just like math!

Doomsday isn't upon us. 10 years and things will likely appear to be the same as they are today. But behind the scenes we will have passed some points of no return.

But I understand the original claim wasn't scary enough for you to build a strawman out of so you have to take non-science commentary and clutch your pearls.

Give it a rest. Many of us on here can actually read.

I recommend learning how to do that along with your newly found mad math skills!

To those who suggest that a warming tipping point exists in our future,
I would ask, why was the tipping point not crossed in past inter glacial periods
when it was warmer than it is now?
ice_core3.png
While I contend that a tipping point exists, it is below our current temperature, and has a negative sign.
If we think about the climate like an electronics amplifier circuit, we are near VCC, the highest point possible
with the given power supply. The is minor potential for warming, but enormous potential for cooling.

Perhaps a few percent, but not the same as the entire volume of ice.
It should be an easy experiment, ice in a glass of saltwater, I suspect the glass still does not overflow, unless it was right
up to the meniscus line before.

You know these people aren't stupid and are capable of the math behind this, right?
