The White House, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Mexican government and trucking groups said Wednesday that a new policy by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) was creating a multi-mile backup of commercial vehicles carrying perishable fruits, vegetables and other products. The policy forces trucks to submit to a state inspection after a federal inspection once they cross the border from Mexico. It quickly escalated into an international incident, with the Mexican government seeking help from the U.S. State Department and the White House blasting the Texas governor. There are also growing complaints about truckers stuck in their cabs for more than 30 hours without access to food, water, or places to bathe in temperatures that have breached 100 degrees.
The delays have raised concerns that a U.S. economy already experiencing inflation and supply shortages could face an entirely new set of problems, potentially driving up prices on certain products and making other items even more scarce.

“This isn’t a regional issue, or that the city of Laredo is not getting their produce at grocery stores,” said John Esparza, president of the Texas Trucking Association. “We are seeing delays that will be felt across the country. There are a half a dozen divisions of trucking [affected]. There’s the refrigerated segment of trucking, there’s household goods, forestry, fuel tankers, commodities for trade goods — this is about General Motors, Ford and everything coming out of Mexico, our trade partner.” Strawberries, asparagus, avocados, tomatoes and other spring favorites are sitting in lines of refrigerated trucks many miles long as growers and shippers scramble to reroute and grocers hustle to find products from elsewhere to avoid empty shelves in the run-up to the Easter and Passover holidays.

They are trying to dictate immigration policy to the administration. Specifically, that the administration misuse Title 42 - purportedly a health order - to deter people from following U.S. law to the letter by presenting at the border seeking asylum (in fact, they may present anywhere in the states even after being here unlawfully for up to a year).

As usual, they are doing it in their favorite underhanded way: taking Americans hostage. On top of everything else, they want to **** with a vast array of supply chains. Knowing the GOP, they'll blame Biden for every last bit of the damage they cause.

The blockage is being caused by MEXICAN truckers...on the MEXICAN side of the border...blocking both northbound and southbound lanes.

In any case, Abbott is following the example set by Trump when he was President and he forced Mexico to take steps to end the illegal alien caravans before they got to the US border. Trump made it in the best interest of Mexico to help out by bringing financial and economic pain. Abbott is doing the same...and it's working.

Governor Abbott said he reached a 'historic agreement' with Nuevo León Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepulveda so that bridge traffic can return to normal in Nuevo Leon.

Governor Abbott said that's due to an agreement with Governor Garcia Sepulveda to increase border security on the Mexican side of the border.

Gov. Abbott says the Texas DPS will revert to normal random inspections at the border with Nuevo Leon only. Abbott said he would only agree to lift enhanced safety inspections at other ports of entry if Governors of other Mexican border states make similar agreements.

Abbott said he looks forward to working with all of them.

Abbott called for President Biden to maintain Title 42 and aggressively enforce Remain in Mexico. Abbott also called on Mexico's President to collaborate with Texas to end the influx of cartel activity from Mexico to Texas.

Republicans have no scruples or morals. If you stand in the way of what they want they will try to hurt you to get their way.

That is a lie
Nope. Not a lie. (Unless you think the Mainstream Media is lying to you.)

Of course, the Mainstream Media is spinning this to make it Abbott's fault, but the fact is, it's the MEXICAN truckers blocking the border crossings.

Right-wing extremists such as Maggot Abbott will actively harm people in order to get their way. God help this country if any of them ever take the White House again.

That is unimaginably stupid gaslighting, Mycroft.

Do you know why? Honest question. I won't get an honest answer, but it is an honest question.

Can't the federal government stop this? This affects national interests.

Similar mess (although not as noticeable) with all the border jumpers he has arrested for trespassing. He arrested thousands, but the same problems with where to put them while a choked court system tries to handle them and how to deport them all ensued. He's kind of like the dog that caught the bus.

Nice spin.

Why do you support a president that caused the gas hike and supply slow downs?

Your question is dismissed until you first answer my question. :)

International trade is a federal issue. The federal government has options if a state wants to block international trade out of spite.

Your question was partisan hack bull shit.

You didn't give a shit when Biden sent handouts to keep people home after liberal lockdowns.

More projection and dodging by RUSN.

International trade is a federal issue. The federal government has options if a state wants to block international trade out of spite.

States have options for illegal border crossings generated by a sitting president as well.

Your OP was projection and you whine about perceived projection.

Typical you.

And now comes an ad hom from someone who doesn't want to address why Abbott is blocking an international border crossing. Why are you OK when your own side does it?

I mean, seriously. Go back and look at @Mycroft's (inevitable mandatory posting slot #2 dump) gaslighting.

He's citing an article about how Abbott first took everyone affected by the border pile-up he created, then shifted that pile-up back to the Mexican side of the border to try to hide the more visible aspects of his anti-constitutional behavior.

And on that note - the anti-constitutional nature of attempting to enforce federal immigration law, which is subject to the pre-emption clause of the constitution - what in the hell is someone who says they served in the United States Navy is telling God to praise a politician who is shitting on that constitution?

What's an American doing cheering on the shitting-upon of other Americans, especially with war-related energy cost spikes (kicking everything else up) on top of a still-****ed supply chain meeting rampant demand, existing in no small part due to an unemployment rate of 3.6%, all of which you would scream about from the rootops if Trump were president?

Why do you Trumpists want America to fail and Americans to suffer? Why did you lot try to overthrow the first republic?

Nope. Not a lie. (Unless you think the Mainstream Media is lying to you.)

Tell me all about what you know about states rights, the federation of states, the Constitution.................... and then maybe we can have a reasonable debate.

Until then, your posts are horse shit.
