And the vehicles abandoned and blocking the evacuation routes — at least Palisades Lane — say that you are correct. Pacific Coast Highway is a mess as well — major traffic artery for those living west of Santa Monica. No one is traveling on PCH east of Topanga Canyon, and I don’t know how close to the Santa Monica boundary the westbound traffic is stopped.Always be the first one to panic.
This is why you should be the first person to grab what you need and get a hotel room a hundred miles away. And the vehicles abandoned and blocking the evacuation routes — at least Palisades Lane — say that you are correct. Source of fire identified.Update says LA County firefighters used a bulldozer to remove abandoned vehicles from Palisades Drive and Sunset Boulevard — Teslas and Mercedes included.
From above link.
What was the source?Source of fire identified.
He's making a joke about exploding Teslas.........I think. What was the source?
The Santa Ana winds have returned. This time Pacific Palisades is burning. From 20 acres at 11:30 AM to 770+ at 2:30 PM. The worst winds are supposed to be late tonight, and early AM tomorrow,
In Venice I can see plumes of smoke from the fire, as can those living in Santa Monica and Marina del Rey. Smoke is being blown out over the ocean.
More sirens — have been hearing them frequently this afternoon.
Money well spent for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. An argument could be made for restricting new building in the suburban-chaparral interface — closing the barn door after most of the horses have left.
More strong gusts as the winds in Venice increase this afternoon.
No rain locally in yonks. The brush is dry, and abundant from last winter’s generous rains.
California wildfires latest: Rain brings relief — and mudslides — to burn areas in Los Angeles
More than an inch of rain fell in parts of Los Angeles Monday afternoon, triggering flash flood watches and warnings in areas scorched by this month's wildfires.www.yahoo.com
You don't want to be in the traffic jam when the fire comes through. Just saying.
I’m also seeing live coverage from CBS via the Internet.Fox Cable is giving the most accurate information right now. Live coverage.
Ohmigod, I am so sorry. Good luck to everyone involved.I’m also seeing live coverage from CBS via the Internet.
Santa Monica has ordered immediate evacuation north of San Vicente, and north of Montana to San Vicente. Sort of Brentwood adjacent.
Palisades High School is burning, as are nearby apartments on Sunset. Besides the high school, both sides of Temescal Canyon are on fire. My SIL said a nursing home was being evacuated. The Getty Villa had some landscaping damaged, but the buildings and art collections are unharmed. A long time seafood place on PCH west of Topanga Canyon Blvd burned, so the fire is traveling towards the Malibu city limit. This area was not affected by the Malibu Franklin fire.
Any idea why?I'm seeing a lot of flights into Burbank being diverted to LAX and Long Beach.
Wind gusts from the east, unsafe to land.Any idea why?
I’m maybe equidistant from the Palisades and LAX, and it’s really windy here tonight. I expect our local streets will be littered with palm fronds tomorrow.
Edited to add: Never mind — winds at Burbank airport are 71 mph v 32 mph at LAX.
