Another Reason to Flee California

Use this as a guide, please....

U.S. President Donald Trump met with 30 men in the U.S. House of Representatives' Freedom Caucus to discuss maternity care.

Notice anything missing? How about females?
The rejected California measure notwithstanding (it was a poorly written bill) this is the problem similar measures are trying to address.
I’m guessing nearly all of these are married men. Good. Saint Paul had some very good advice on the role of women.

I find it amusing when I hear a former californian say they left because of politics. I know one who grew up in Orange County and told me he was sick of the socialism, bla bla bla. So he moved to Tyler, TX, home of Louie Gomert and smack dab in the middle of bible belt TX. He loves it there and I am happy for him. But he also cashed in his house for serious bucks and paid cash for a house with some left over. That kind of equity is a big reason people move away. If you can sell your track home for a million bucks, clear 500 grand or more and go buy an even nicer house for cash, thats pretty attractive. But no matter where you go, it aint California and the weather where you go is going to suck compared to here. People move because they can cash out but once you leave, you won't be able to afford coming back. So I say good riddance, leave in droves.

Our mortgage payment is "high" compared to many other cities for a 2300 (or is it 2400 - have to go check!) square foot home.
Of course, it's a relatively new home (built in 1996) and is up to code for everything including earthquake standards.
It is also incredibly energy efficient, as it feels like you could almost freeze a glass of water with the AC on in the dog days of summer and it's toasty warm for hours after just a few minutes with the furnace on in winter.
We will have it paid off some time around the end of this new decade.

And it has already almost doubled in value since we purchased it in 2014.
And yet, believe it or not, the property taxes are low compared to North Texas.
We know because our first home was in Mansfield, TX and I remember how high property taxes were down there, for a home that cost a quarter of what we paid for this one.
In fact, once you deduct the property taxes on this home, which we had baked into the mortgage payments, suddenly it doesn't look like we're really paying all that much after all.

But I am pretty certain we're staying here. Neither of us ever wants to leave.

I saw that, Elison will not be missed. Austin is a wonderful city and housing is cheap compared to the valley but I still wouldn't trade California for Austin unless I had no choice.

People bitch about LA traffic but I've been in Austin traffic AND Dallas traffic and I don't see any difference.

You're not factoring in all the other Taxes you pay in Calif compare to Texas

I am looking at moving to California to marry my girlfriend, and the rents in LA are now going down because people are leaving. I’ve been looking at studios in certain neighborhoods and it’s now possible to find a decent studio or one bed for less then a grand in most of LA county, which wasn’t the case even a year ago.

Falling rents in middle class areas are a good indicator people had enough.

I am looking at moving to California

You poor soul(LOL)

I didn't have a problem with Los Angeles traffic, but that was because I rode a motorcycle and cut between traffic. I could still make it from Reseda to Long Beach in 45 minutes down the 405 during rush hour. Los Angeles drivers are aggressive, but compared to other States I have lived in, including Alaska, they are very good drivers overall.

Traffic in Alaska is considerably different. One important factor is that there is only one way into or out of Anchorage. So if there is an accident that blocks the highway, then you could be sitting in your vehicle for hours. It is much worse during the Summer than during the Winter because we normally get two million tourists during the Summer months, and most of them foreigners who do not know how to drive in the US.

Don't worry, I 'm a former Califorian who will gladly take the place of the OP if you would like(LOL)
I was born and raised in southern California. However, after the illegal 1989 California firearms ban, I took my banned firearms and moved to Alaska in 1991. Best move I ever made. (y)
