Yesterday, Andrew Sullivan (author of "The Conservative Soul") described exactly how I feel about John McCain.
I totally agree. That torture thing caused me to change my opinion of McCain, Warner, and Graham.....permanently. I expected better than this from a man who was a Prisoner of War for 5 years.
MATTHEWS: Welcome back. Hari-Kerry. When John Kerry stumbled on the stump this week, you might say Christmas came early for every other White House contender. Right out of the gate, Kerry's old ally, John McCain, slammed him.
Senator JOHN McCAIN (Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes"/Tuesday): To somehow suggest that only those with lacking academic credentials are the ones who are serving is an insult to everyone of those young people and brave, young and old, who are serving in what I believe is a noble cause. . . .
MATTHEWS: Does anybody here really believe that John Kerry was making fun of the troops?
Mr. SULLIVAN: No...When I first heard the joke, that was my feeling: `oh.' But then when I saw the prepared remarks and I realized what he was trying to say, and Karl Rove and George Bush must've known that, too, he really wasn't trying to say that...
Mr. SULLIVAN: . . .McCain's selling point has always been integrity. I have been persuaded, I'm afraid. I love the guy. But he doesn't have any anymore. That what he did on the torture issue, by giving in to Karl Rove, and what he's done now, knowing full well Kerry didn't mean that, means he's gone as a man of integrity. . . .
