Businessman Pleads to Bribing Congressman

May 3, 2006
By MATTHEW BARAKAT
Associated Press Writer
ALEXANDRIA, Va.
A technology executive pleaded guilty Wednesday to paying more than $400,000 in bribes to a congressman in charges stemming from an investigation of Rep. William Jefferson, a Louisiana Democrat.
Vernon Jackson, 53, chief executive of the Louisville, Ky.-based telecommunications firm iGate Inc., admitted to bribery of a public official and conspiracy to bribe a public official during a plea hearing in U.S. District Court.
Court records make clear that the congressman whom Jackson admits bribing is Jefferson, who represents New Orleans in the House. The documents refer only to "Representative A."

FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!!!!

So are the Democrats demanding Jefferson step down? Is this being headlined on MSNBC? NO. Was it front page USA Today? NO, page 10.

If this were a Republican would it be? YES.

Hmmmmmm, strange

As an important an issue corruption in government is to the Dems and the left, not one comment from any on this.

Oh calm down. We're getting to it. ;)

It's on the Washington Post, if you care:

The Legal Woes Of Rep. Jefferson

For the record, I think he should step down.

This is nothing new, it's been going on for over a year. This is just the latest developement. And Pelosi tried to defend her party this morning as being ABOVE the Republicans. What a laugh.

Meh, corruption in politics has been going on for centuries. Same game, different players.

Sounds he was doing it over the past four years. Sounds like a douche bag move to me. If he in fact did this, which it sounds like he did, I certainly think he should be hung out to dry on this. The longer we let these guys do this crap then slap their wrist the longer we're going tom have to deal with this BS, IMO.

This is everybit as bad as Randy Cunningham but the media is almost silent on it putting in on back pages and hardly mentionind it on any news shows. Amazing the contrast to Republicans.

And how many reports do you there have been concerning Delay versus Jefferson since that report or before? How many times do you think MSNBC has had a discussion of Jefferson versus Delay or Libby or Rove. Same with Mollohan. And that report you cited was from February not even concerning this new developement. Do a search on their website and what do you find, just the standard AP and Ruetuers news wires, the WP is not devoting any of it's own time on this. Where is thier investigative reporting, where is their ediotoralizing about the corruption in the Democrat Party?

I'm just curious, Stinger...did Fox News cover this same story to your satisfaction?

To my satisfaction? What I am asking for in the other media is to report it on the same level they reported on the Delay story and so call REPUBLICAN culture of corruption. Did Fox report it, yes along with Mollohan and Conyers ethical problems, have they discussed Jefferson yes along with the others? Has Fox covered it as many times as they have Delay, no but then much of their reporting on it is reporting how much coverage it gets elsewhere.

Now I'm curious as to whether you are curious as to why the likes of MSNBC and CNN give so much coverage to Delay yet Jefferson appears to be nonexistent. They constantly harp on the "culture of corruption" as if ONLY Republicans can be corrupt while these important story get little if any notice by them.

And what will the Democrats do without the "culture of coruption" issue?
