I know this idea will be met with controversey but what I would like to do with Iraq is turn it into a another Las Vegas. Think about it: the weather is really warm and hot there and it's kind of in the middle of the world, so it could be made into an International tourist attraction. It could be great. We could build hotels, casinos, golf courses, pools, businesses, restaurants, etc. We could bring in entertainment from all over the world. I would love to see something like that happen, as I am personally a big fan of the capitalism, entertainment, and I love to see commercial development.

However, I do realize this idea would most likely be met with hostility from the Muslim population that think gambling and such is immoral.

As long as they're the ones paying for it I wouldn't care if they built a giant phallus as long as it generates revenue so our government can stop spending an insane amount of our tax dollars on their reconstruction and economy. Iraq has it's own stock market now and their oil industry is running at 100% so hopefully they'll start paying for all of this soon.

You know what would happen if we tried that? We would lose all support from the Iraqis. They already are unsure about our motives over there and if we decided to bring a lil of the ol american culture over there they would flip out.

Islam forbids Gambling

Sorry to smash your dreams.

Well, it wouldn't actually be just, "American culture." Europe has casinos, hotels, and resort places, too.

Yes, I know. I hope, however, that we can install a neutral government over there that respects freedom of religion.

wouldn't matter, if the majority of the population would be pissed, they probably wouldn't do it. Its too early to do something that risky.

Maybe under Saddam their might have been a chance for casinos and the like, it was the most secular Arab nation in the region.

But now, it will be decades before Iraq is that secular again.

es, I know. I hope, however, that we can install a neutral government over there that respects freedom of religion.

Good luck. As most of the Iraqis want a constitution based on the Koran, religious tolerance isn't exactly something you can expect from them.

Wrong

In the Koran it states clearly about those with other religons having their own courts and law system.

The Koran is very tolerant to other religions, some governments aren't, but this particular religion is, in its very own text.

Building a church...eh, I don't think you could nessaricly get away with that in that in Iraq, but as muslim countrys become more like the west (United Arab Emirate anyone?) it'll turn out better.

Remember, most of the problems they have we caused with our fettering.

I'm waiting for the Saudis to embrace capitalism, but thats dreaming..

Well yeah your right. I thought I edited my post because it didn't come off right. Thats not really what I intended to say.

What I was trying to say was that since most Iraqis want a constitution based on the Koran, this means that aren't going to be exactly open to seperate religions being practiced if you can understand what I mean. But not really in the terms of it being a religion but more of what it allows and does not allow. The point is that they do not want americanization in Iraq

your a dreamer georgie

IRAQ people hate America right about now
any govt put in place will be assasinated
And American soldiers are being picked off the street with shovels and put into body bags more so now then at any other time in the war
iraq police and army are your enemies at night
there is no way to win the war
the Iraq people dont want your freedom or your puppet govt.
America is destined to lose this war
but its ok though Bush and his cronies will make alot of cash
out of it
they dont really care if they lose the war they only care about the money and the US$~oil connection
