Mankind causing Global warming seems to be the favourite cause just lately.
Without any scientific knowledge or proof, my gut instinct tells me that these various doomsayers are talking through their respective a$$e$.
I will not deny that the planetry weather is in the midst of drastic change, but caused by mankind? I somehow doubt this to be the cause, although it undoubtedly does have some bearing on the change.
What does concern me, something that these illustrious scientists do not seem to take much notice of, is the degree of pollution clearly discernible around not only US but also most cities worldwide.
When flying to any major city, look out of an aircraft window shortly before landing, you will see a brown haze over almost any city you are about to land at.
Most if not all this pollution is caused by mankind, those who reside and work in these cities have to breathe this muck.

It is a good read.

Very interesting article, thank you very much.

Just goes to show how there is no consensus and many of the claims are overblown and misrepresented.

The following statements summarize my point of view.

Pollution is an issue, not because it effects climate change, but because of it's effects on people/animals/trees/plants living in or near it, which it does cause provable harm too.

Thus I support efforts to use "greener" technologies in new constructions/devices/etc and some rebuilding/renovation/etc while completely disagreeing with much if not all of the "Global warming" chatter. However, this effort should be balanced so that it does not unreasonably hinder growth, which will provide the resources to discover even better ways of reducing pollution.

I think that the vast majority of people who are reluctant to agree with the global warming enthusiasts would agree with you about this.

I also think that while many of the GW enthusiasts would blindly attack you as a "holocaust denier," they would do well to listen and realize that the goals of the two parties are not that different.

I'd like to recommend a Global Warming Subset within Environment.

I don't have time to go looking for it right now, but I'm pretty sure it was recently shown that solar activity does not correlate with recent warming trends.

Anyway, this was a terrible article. The following passages caught my eye:

Enthusiasm for the global-warming scare also ensures that heatwaves make headlines, while contrary symptoms, such as this winter’s billion-dollar loss of Californian crops to unusual frost, are relegated to the business pages.

Global Warming is a technically correct term, but the public tends to misunderstand it completely. As average ambient temperatures get warmer, what happens is that weather becomes more extreme and unpredictable. You get 70 degree temperatures in New York in February, and snow in California in April. The danger inherent in this is that agriculture becomes a lot more difficult.

The early arrival of migrant birds in spring provides colourful evidence for a recent warming of the northern lands. But did anyone tell you that in east Antarctica the Adélie penguins and Cape petrels are turning up at their spring nesting sites around nine days later than they did 50 years ago? While sea-ice has diminished in the Arctic since 1978, it has grown by 8% in the Southern Ocean.

I'd really like to see a source on that. The figures I've seen don't support this, IIRC.
