I find this very interesting and I'm surprised that no-one here has mentioned it. I had a little chuckle to myself at his victory speech when some of his supporters shouted "Allah Ackbar".

I'm very interested what you guys take on this?? Come on don't be shy. :2wave:

GarzaUK I do not know where you been for the past few days, but this same discussion got a few people banned from the thread for speaking and defending their opinion, and here you are right be with the same topic. It is sad when one have to get involved with name calling on the internet. However religion bashing seems to always lead up to threads, and I am one that don't back down whenever I am defending my race or religion. Good Luck and hopefully your forum don't get mixed with racism or moderatorism.

I haven't read his victory speech so I can't comment on that, but I can say that his election to the House isn't shocking, especially for an electorate that has been sending Democrats to office for over 30 years running. One thing we enjoy patting ourselves on the back about in the US is our inclusiveness and diversity, and perhaps his election will bring some validity to our declarations. It's embarrassing that this is newsworthy when it should be de rigeur.

Keith Ellison isn't the sort of Mulsim the reactionaries in the United States fear so much, yet he gets lumped in with them by some people for reasons I can't quite fathom. The mere fact that he is Muslim and appealed to Muslim voters should come as no surprise and shouldn't be viewed with any more skepticism or righteous indignation than any other candidate looking for sympathetic voters, yet it has incited some visceral and fearful comments.

In his own words, he's run as an American citizen, and not as a Muslim. The particulars of his faith should be inconsequential compared to his stance on issues and only considered inasmuch as any other candidate's faith. The man is an American, unabashedly so.

I'm personally happy to see publically non-Christian Representatives in office, not because I have anything against Christians, but because I believe in that diversity we are so self-congratulatory about over here.
