"Most Americans want their next president to be strong, decisive and of good moral character... Around a third of those polled said the next president had to be honest and straightforward, making it the top of the five most desirable personal qualities in the country's leader.


In other words....Americans want to do a 180 degree shift in direction.

Seems like Americans want a real "leader"....someone that will focus on the important issues of the country...rather than the agenda that GWB has pursued of using wedge issues such as gay marriage, gays in the military, promoting christianity into government/schools.....

This article seems to say that American was a Strong Leader that will get back to the business of making America great....

Which politician currently under the democratic wing do you feel fits this description?

Partisan BS. Just because you disagree with the president doesn't mean the man isn't decisive or of moral character. I want someone who is strong, decisive and of good moral character also. I just hope there is another GWB to take his place. You're trolling.

I'm not sure which candidate from either party or other third party fits the description, yet. I plan on doing a lot of research and observation over the next several months to make a decision. I feel pretty good about the prospects though. I think regardless of the party there are several choices that potentially fit the bill...and I think I am pretty safe in saying that pretty much all of them are better choices that our current "leader".

Not really pushing the envelope with that prediction. :lol:

I feel completely different. I look over the landscape and don't see much to be excited about.

To me....what I want most to see from the next President is someone who is honest and straightforward ...period. I don't care what their political views are...I don't care what their personal morals are. I want a leader who has integrity and who is not going to politicize the office of the President, turn it into an office to radically push an agenda (be it conservative/liberal) and who will be straight-forward, i.e., not deceive, not fight against oversight....etc.

I agree. And, right now, the only person who will get me out to vote on election day is Fred Thompson. No other candidate has what I am looking for.

A good question that lacks an equally good answer, I'm afraid. When you look at the Democratic line-up you'll see a lot of fluff in candidates like Obama and Edwards, and a good deal of disenchantment toward the front runner, Hillary.

If I were a Democrat, I would be very concerned. I forget the exact number, but the percentage of people that "definitely would not" vote for Hillary Clinton is in the mid-40s. In a year where the candidate who best caters to the middle will most likely win the election, that is a staggering statistic to swallow.

Then you get into the seemingly univeral, anti-Hillary alternate, Barack Obama. How long does this man plan on avoiding the issues and speaking in vaguries? It isn't going to work forever. If there is some astronomical fluke that allows this man to become the Democratic Party's nominee...he is really going to have to step up his game.

Finally, you have John Edwards. Or, as I like to call him, Obama-lite. Moderately-good charisma...mediocrity in every other subject. He is basically the stumpy, moderately-liberal, white guy's Obama, who happens to talk about issues. What does this translate into? Only time will tell.

Also, the Republican candidates in this election are much closer to the center and have more leaderhip experience than the democrats.

Dems have 3 senators, and 3 wanna-bes.

The Republicans have a Bipartisan Senator who's a Military hero, Two ex-Governors of blue states, and America's mayor.

It's funny. As much as everybody hates our current administration, I can't see anyway that Clinton, Obama, or Edwards is able to win a national election. Someone from the republican side is sure to win it unless the democrats come up with someone more electable very very soon.

I wouldn't go quite that far. Close, but not quite. There are a few lemons on the Republican side as well...

Flip Mitt Romney comes to mind. This man has made flip-flop after flip-flop, gaffe after gaffe...and he it's not even 2008 yet. I agree with the general analysis that Romney is the GOP's John Kerry. I really believe that this man could tank a presidential election for the Republicans.

Then you have John McCain. There was a time when John McCain would have made a wonderful presidential candidate. However, these days...he just comes off as a tongue twisted, gaffe prone, senile old man. Example? Que his contraceptive position! McCain Stumbles on H.I.V. Prevention - The Caucus - Politics - New York Times Blog - Not exactly "strong leader" material. I think he could beat Obama...but something tells me that Edwards' wit would get the best of him. McCain vs Hillary would be an election of very low turnout, the results of which would be unpredictable. In that match up, the candidate best able to shut the hell up would probably come away victorious.

Finally you have the new face on the scene, Fred Thompson. What does this man really bring to the table? A one-term senator from Tennesee, who now has a part on Law & Order...what's he going to attack his opponents on? Being Hollywood liberals perhaps? I see him as an uglier, GOP Edwards. Little experience, good enough issues record, name recognition...NO SUBSTANCE!

Now, having said that mouthful...I will say that the GOP's candidate perspective isn't exactly as bleak as the Democrats'. Rudy Giuliani, despite corruption charges, is still a very strong, moderate candidate with very high approval ratings. I can't see any Democrat beating him in the general at this stage of the election. Hell, I am having a hard time seeing any Democrat beating him in PA at this stage in the election.

Only time will tell, however.

Oh really? Who are the three people that I support? I don't recall ever mentioning that I have decided to support anyone currently running. There are several that I would give consideration to.
But if you think there are three....and do tell.....how are those three (whoever they are) corrupt?

As to your second point....I love your hypocrisy. You spout off all the time about actors getting involved in politics.....oops.....I guess unless they support your politics....then you are all for it....right?
