Sure, he was. But you have to overlook all the lies, (especially the BIG LIE), bigotry, conflicts of interest, lawlessness, prior sexual predator tendencies, two impeachments, and one huge screw up on Jan. 6th, 2021. Not to mention the lack of leadership on Covid and the propensity to praise and kiss ass of the world's dictators.

And I am sure I left out plenty. Even using the BEST is a travesty. By the overwhelming majority of presidential historians, the very WORST comes to mind.

Failing to concede the election, refuse a peaceful transfer of power and inhibit Biden's transition, invite Biden to WH for a welcome tour and failing to attend the inauguration proves Trump's childish behavior. I do believe he's the only loser to ever pull that bullshit after an election.

What "preoccupation"? Trump was caught with classified documents at home. That's bad. Trump tore up presidential documents after being told repeatedly it was a crime. That's bad. Trump lied about the value of his properties to increase his loans (bank fraud) and to lower his tax liability (tax fraud). That's bad.

And now he's shooting his mouth off in order to keep his name in the headlines. Ask his lawyers. That's bad.

Trump has a problem in that he craves the spotlight so much, he doesn't care what is written about him, as long as they continue to write about him. All the while, his lawyers are saying to him "Will you please shut the **** up? We're trying to keep you out of prison, here!"

You really need to read his book, The Art of the Deal. He clearly explains how he is able to look people right in the eye, lie to them, and get them to hand over their cash. He understands human nature, particularly human nature of unsophisticated rubes. Those folks have no idea what it takes to be president. They just liked Trump's unconventional approach, regardless of his complete and utter lack of qualifications.

Why else would combat military veterans flock to Bone Spur Trump rallies?

Why else would self-identifying Christians give this man, who have never provided any evidence that he shares their faith, give him a pass on his sexual and adulterous behavior?

Why would millions of women, many of whom condemned Bill Clinton's behavior, vote for a man who has never shown anything but contempt for the women in his life?

There are a couple of good rightwing politicians left I'm sure, but the party is pretty much dead and just awaiting burial. Either that or our country, Republic and democracy will die.

The ball is in their court, hopefully the sane patriotic ones will step up to the plate, show some character, patriotism and integrity, and boot out all the anti-American white supremacists, white nationalists and conspiracy nutters. I don't have much hope anymore that it will happen, perhaps we'll be surprised. We need two healthy parties to move forward.

Of course, a President making regular impromptu appearances on a TV show was good for ratings. Every morning, Trump (as President of the US) basically worked for the Fox News network. First grade children are capable of rational thinking and logic. They are also wily enough to tell when someone is sarcastic. Sometimes they can recognize when someone is trying to tease or trick them. They have had very little emotional growth since kindergarten. We know this since we can see how they still have the same fears, misgivings, doubts and misunderstandings that they had a year before. But a child who is 6 going on 7 has experienced an amazing rate of cognitive growth in their latest year of life with a revolution in their ability to understand the world around them. These changes in the capacity of their brain are so fast that they themselves are both delighted and mystified by the windows it opens for them. But no matter how clever they have become as of late, they still believe in Santa. First graders are capable of distinguishing fact from opinion, and they can know lies from the truth. They can also realize when a story is fictional, and they play along while they thoroughly enjoy magic shows even though they know better than to believe in magic. So why do so many of them still believe in Santa Claus?

If you don’t believe in Santa Claus, you can’t get the presents. And they want the presents. So suspending disbelief and denying reality allows them to believe in the magic that brings the presents they wish for.

Cognitive dissonance is not just for kids.

Compared to conspiracy theory supporters, the majority of us do come back to reality since the moments of self-deception are not too far away from the norm, and we have a short distance back to a midpoint to reset our perceptions.

A person doesn’t have to return to reality with the Santa Disorder. All negative news is fake news. As scandals and tweets dominate the headlines from day to day, the details are all brushed aside so that they can have one person alone who can take away all our doubts.

The Santa Disorder makes it easier to convince yourself of what is true and what’s not. They don’t have to verify facts because we choose which ones we like and dismiss the ones we don’t. It’s reassuring that Trump alone can fix it all. That’s a big present.
