While these are very early days for the nation's new health care law, some Americans are already blaming it for higher premiums and few report much in the way of benefits so far.

The third quarter CNBC All-America Economic Survey finds nearly one in five Americans believe their health insurance costs have gone up because of Obamacare. The answers are highly partisan, but not entirely so. For example, about a third of Republicans and tea party supporters believe they have experienced negative economic effects from the law—about 10 points above the average—but 20 percent of Independents and 11 percent of Democrats are also among the group.

Many Americans believe dinosaurs and humans existed on this planet at the same time. Is the percentage relevant? If 100% believed it, would it be true?

and it just will get worse and America will remember who was the one who stood up for 21 hours fighting to keep this train wreck from happening. they will remember the ones who supported him the will remember the ones who did not they will remember the ones who called him names and they will remember the ones who voted to keep it funded
I can see the 2014 campaign commercials already they are going to be brutal for the ones on the wrong side of Obama care debate

you dont know crap about politics it isn't about who is right or wrong it isn't about what is true or not it is all about what the public believes and perceives

Yep, I work for a global company and we just saw another major reorg with new announcements made on our health insurance for next year thanks to ACA. Some of these changes mean some of my fellow associates will be retiring this year even though they don't want to because they will lose spouse coverage if employed in 2014. In my case it means another hefty increase that will be more than than my raise. This ACA legislation was much worse for me than the housing bubble, or even the stock market drop. It is going to be much more costly.

It will get worse.

We have a really bad healthcare system. And no matter how much improvement Obamacare will bring, it will be blamed for every issue, every problem, every glitch in our current and future healthcare system, no matter what the truth is. Look at whats happening already. The ACA isnt in effect, yet all we hear is how horrible the healthcare system is getting from the Conservatives.

But I think overall, the American people will see that having health insurance outside of an employer is an incredible thing, and that the Democrats were the only party to deliver it. Then the non-South will banish the GOP into the wilderness for 40 years.

Just because americans have been lied to and believe it does not make it true, it just means lots of people who they respect have abused that respect. Americans believe lots of silly and insane things. Some americans believe the earth is 6000 years old. Some americans believe in a zombie savior made of crackers and wine. Some americans believe they are jedis. Some americans believe women are capable of turning off their reproductive organs in the case of rape. Some americans believe babies masturbate in the womb. Some americans believe our pollution problem is a myth. Some americans believe obama has a time machine which he used to forge birth records in a hawaian newspaper so he might one day become the first president from kenya. Some americans believe smoking is healthy for them. Some americans believe there is a galactic federation run by an overlord named xenu who was imprisoned in a hawaian volcano with a giant array of lazers that run on eternal batteries and the only person who found this out was a drug addled paranoid delusional prophet who wrote sci fi books in the middle of last century.

So what does this prove? Americans can be pretty friggen stupid when it comes down to it.

because thousand are already getting letters from their insurance companies either raising rates or dropping cover they are already experiencing layoffs and getting put on part time and it makes them wonder if all this bad is happening right befor the roll out it can only get worse

Well he did vote to fund it so what does that say! He is an idiot and the majority of people will see him as an idiot.

some message board posters believe that make sense with their posts.

Right. And if it is or isnt related to Obamacare, its irrelevant You guys are gonna blame Obamacare no matter what.

You can't be friggin serious. Medium and large businesses are eliminating full time positions and cutting hours to under 30 a week and you think there is no connection?

working 'under the table' its the newest hawtest growing employment sector in the nation
as time goes on it will become the new American way

I can guarantee you dont really care if there is or isnt. You'll point to Obamacare.

Businesses have been eliminating full time positions and cutting hours for decades. They also have been adding positions and increasing hours for decades. You'll focus on the former and blame Obamacare. Its pretty clear.

You ignore stories like these:

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/08/obamacare-isnt-destroying-jobs-95239.html#ixzz2cXwPzarc

And data like this, which shows theres not too much of a jump in people working under 30 hours a week ( and it affects 0.6% of the US workers)
and the slight change isnt statistically significant, which means its equivalent to what would happen by chance.

http://www.cepr.net/documents/publications/aca-job-killer-2013-07.pdf

But I AM fully convinced you will rail at data like this and insist that its wrong, because your predetermined position will make it so. Thats why I can tell you with confidence that you are going to hear lot of bad things about Obamacare. Some might be true, but not most...

it really doesn't matter, if your premium skyrockets you just don't pay it
if you are fined, you don't pay that
if your hours are cut to 29 to keep your employer from having to cover you
you find another part time job or go without

you are the little guy
there's nothing else you can do, right?

People are forgetting that access matters too. If there are 50 million without health insurance, that's a colossal failure that needed rectifying. A huge chunk of them will now acquire insurance, some practically for free, whereas before even if they could afford it they were blocked for preexisting conditions or poor general health. Don't forget some of the outrages, even for those with insurance, that led to this.

you dont know crap about politics it isn't about who is right or wrong it isn't about what is true or not it is all about what the public believes and perceives

So you admit the Low IQ voters on the right don't need facts, if they THINK it is so that is all that matters, all proof aside... :2wave:

If a company attempts to gouge you, you can switch plans with no penalty or being disallowed because of pre-existing conditions. If the ill-informed read the 'metal' plans in ACA they might abandon their current plans.

There is plenty of time for the ACA to show it's effect before the next election. Though some maybe cynical and have CONvoluted recent history to fit their whine- the American people didn't vote facts but what they were duped into believing when Willard lost- I have greater faith in the masses.

And that would be ALOT of Republicans. Did you know that the exchanges will still be open even if the reckless fools in the House shut down the Govt.?
There is no stopping progress, you'd think you guys would have learned that by now.

how many times do I need to say this THE GOVERNEMENT IS NOT GOING TO SHUT DOWN IT IS ALL ABOUT 2014 republicans know the are not going to get Obama care repealed not now. it was to show the public who was on what side on the inevitable train wreck and it will be used to beat the ones how supported the train wreck over the head with it

Planning a visit to a National Park this week? Want to see the sights in Washington? Go right ahead, they'll all be deserted.....because the insaniT's shut them down. Bet on it.

Of course, in the real world, the HOR just passed bill they KNOW the Senate won't take up, so the Senate has to go thru the debate process, and send another bill to the House.

At this point, it's almost inevitable we will shut down- even if Congress works around the clock.

So the stupid grandstanding is gonna cost us a lot of money- because stopping and starting the government isn't free.

The claim was made:
'Medium and large businesses are eliminating full time positions and cutting hours to under 30 a week

to which you supplied this link to refute:

which clearly states:
True, some employers say they are cutting employees’ hours to avoid the requirement to provide health coverage to full-time workers, which the ACA defines as those working 30 hours or more a week.

your second link clearly states:
However the bill does provide a clear incentive to reduce workers’ hours below 30 per week and many employers claim to be making such reductions in hours.
Is Professor Baker suggesting that the 'employers claims' are lies in his abstract calculations from the CPS? He provides plenty of alternatives companies could use to avoid reducing hours...like dump health insurance and pay the fines. Perhaps he feels (subliminally suggests) they are too dumb to figure that one out.

It appears you have supported the initial supposition...?

You mean not ONLY on the right, don't ya????

But again given some time to push through all the outright lies and insurance company cheap tactics we have time to see what is actually happening rather than what people THINK is going to happen...

No. The concept is that everything is always in motion. I have no doubt some employers are doing this. I also have no doubt those kind of employers are not real stellar ones to work for.

But clearly, IN THE AGGREGATE, this shift isn't happening. In fact, if this movement is as big as some claim, there must be a counter movement to get more people to go from 26-29 hrs per week to over 30 hours. (Although I suppose there could also be movement to below 26 hrs/wk, but you need to see that data).
