Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I dont agree with her political persuasion but I do like the fact that she isn't a professional politician. She is an empale of what I think the framers had in mind. In their day it would of been blacksmiths, farmers, innkeepers. Today its real estate developers and bartenders.

Agreed. I too do not buy her Utopia, but I am very happy to see her call out the garbage going on in Washington.

How refreshing is this?

It's about time someone drew attention to this crap. You go, Girl!

She and you are correct. Congress should be subject to the same laws as their constituents.

Time to cut back on Congressional perks.

Okay. I get that people have strong opinions on this. But, basic information seems to be missing from a lot of this.

Under the current system, employee healthcare is subsidized by the employer. There are differences between public and private jobs, but one thing remains constant. You get paid less if you pay less for medical insurance or other benefits. It's the same thing when talk about the employer side of taxes. A job is paid X amount. Some of that comes in the form of taxes paid, some is paid in fringe benefits, and the rest ends up in salary.

Her insurance may cost a lot less now, but that's because it's more expensive, but it is reduced from her much higher salary.

....by the standard of "had a job before they became Congresscritters", this would make every politician a "non-professional-politician".

How many people decide not to be self-employed because of healthcare? If there was universal healthcare, more people will start a business and employ more people to raise wages with a lower employment.

Even for those small businesses that get it, it's a PITA to have to shop, manage, and then inevitably have to hear the gripes when rates go up 20-30% every year. they then leaev for a large company that has a much larger insuarnce pool and can negotiate lower costs. It's madness.

But the problem is she's not saying Congress should play by the same rules as the rest of us. She's saying that we should get to play by Congress rules.

Sorry, there is not that much money available.

What is the survival rate for new businesses?
79.9% of establishments started in 2014 survived until
2015, the highest share since 2005. From 2004 to 2014,
an average of 78.5% of new establishments survived
one year.
• About half of all establishments survive five years
or longer. In the past decade, this ranged from a
low of 45.4% for establishments started in 2006,
and a high of 51.4% for those started in 2011.
• About one-third of establishments survive 10 years
or longer.

I think everyone should get what Congress gets. The whole world should all get it. After all healthcare is so valuable that it's a sin to charge anyone for it.

Love how AOC inadvertently highlights how expensive Obamacare made health insurance. Now that she's got the Cadillac of insurance plans, I'm sure she's got no intention of giving it up.

It was specifically her point that it's wrong congress gets better plans than the rest of the country.

You either missed it or wanted to continue the bull**** narrative lie that she's actually tricking everyone and will be a standard asshole politician instead of a progressive representing her constituents.

It's about time someone drew attention to this crap. You go, Girl!

Only someone obsessed with Ms. OC as a "go girl" would forget that this proposal has been advanced repeatedly, including in the authorizing vote for Obamacare when Democratic leaders tried to get the one holdout, Lieberman, to vote for Medicare expansion.

But hey, they weren't the "go girl" . (Not to be confused with the 1960s sitcom "That Girl", which, come to think of it, could have starred go-girl).

Totally fair except two points. SBA is always going to show numbers that best support the starting of small businesses. That's their job and they are a wonderful program.

Secondly, that stat is like so many others. The 80% is ALL over the place. It scares so many people away from starting businesses. It's treated as dogma. Before going into business, I did extensive research and mostly came back to that stat. Also, before I got wise to the idiocy of it, I actually started as a franchise business. That number was repeated ad nauseam. The fear of it is more powerful than the reality.

She's in Congress now. That's her problem to figure out how to pay for it

Ive said many many times if politician of this level had to use the same healthcare that we did things would change very quick . . .

LOL, it's as if they showed her the health insurance choices and she was like, "OMG! Seriously? We get all these benefits? Wooooooooow, kewl". She knew exactly how much she'd be making (and then complain about affording an apartment) and how great her healthcare coverage would be once she joined the entitled swamp.

She should probably figure out the paying for it part before telling people that they're going to be getting free everything.

Socialist girl already has it figured out.

First the government. Then taxes. Duh.

She actually said that when asked.

Too late I want my free healthcare and I'm going to her office to demand it

As a small business owner who puts out money for healthcare, taxes, OSHA requirements, and about a hundred other things, I find real fault with this. Universal healthcare would raise my taxes enough that I would have to think twice about every hire and raise. The quality would drop. I'd end up with fewer guys and healthcare run by a government who's comparable accomplishment is the public school system. Gods know how much sick time I'd have to deal with.

Remember, I pay taxes twice. I barely feed my family of four sometimes because I'm taxed as a business, then anything I dare put in my pocket. That's while employing 6 laborers average who sometimes take home more than I do, even before we add in my expenses for keeping work going.

Before you call me an exception or question my management, this is very common for businesses at my size. It's why we have trouble growing more.

while i admire your persistence and entrepreneurship, your business plan appears to be very deficient if all of your laborers are regularly taking home more than you. the glaring observation is that you are exposing yourself and your family to all of the business risk while reaping a lesser compensation than were you to be an employee

there is no reason for you to be twice taxed like a C corporation when subchapter S and especially LLC forms of establishment exist. i would encourage you to contact the SCORE chapter in raleigh and the SBTDC at your nearest state university to see if they can help you find a way to achieve greater profitability

regarding the availability of universal healthcare, once available, as with other industrialized nations, you will be able to attract a better quality of employee talent. being unable to offer a health plan comparable to the larger competitors places you at a distinct disadvantage relative to hiring the more desirable employees from the available labor pool

No, she is using the situation to her advantage politically.
