This young lady is kicking status quo politics and big-business funded politics in the metaphorical balls and she is curb-stomping the "money is free speech" lie which has badly corrupted US politics for too long. Listen to this line of questioning she put on in committee today. It is refreshing to see someone call out the legalised graft and corruption that is present day campaign finance regulation in US Federal politics. I hope this lass survives long enough to make a lasting impact on Federal politics.

Cheers.

I really liked her speech. Our system is fundamentally driven by money interests and not the will of the people. Regardless of what side you're on, we should all be on the side of a government for the people by the people. With what we have, "legalized graft" is putting it nicely.

She did a good job. She's going to be a powerful force in politics as she gains experience.

This is something both lliberals and conservatives should be united on. This is why our country is messed up, while all the wealth goes to the top, because our politicians are bought and paid for, and its ever worse know. How Collins received hundreds of thousands of money to her campaign after she voted yes to confirm Kavanaugh. Somebody bought her vote for SCOTUS pick. And SCOTUS ruled that's constitutional

Unfortunately, still see so many right wing hacks defend this, since they system is currently rigged by big money to put republicans into office that will push for the theocracy they want. Or have been so brainwashed that they just have to be the opposite on liberals on everything.

Left drones continue their STUNNING HYPOCRISY and NAIVETE, we see.

Ocasio-Cortez was NOT EVEN IN OFFICE A MONTH before she WENT ON A LUXURY, LOBBYIST-FUNDED TRIP to Puerto Rico, during the government shutdown, with the House Hispanic Caucus.

Yeah...she's the PERFECT DEMOCRAT to LECTURE ON "GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION"....

Never forget: most Democrats are bought too.

Pelosi just got caught sending an errand boy to health insurers to lobby against MFA and essentially reassure them that the party would proceed with ACA expansion in lieu of singlepayer.

Money = speech is one of the worst things given to us by the modern American Conservative/libertarian.

It’s a lie and one of the most fundamentally dangerous lies that has so utterly damaged American politics...

Anytime it’s called out, is a good thing.

Where's the money to pay for political campaigns supposed to come from? Campaigns aren't free and they won't ever be.

Citizens shouldn't have the right to donate the candidate of their choice?

It is a very small percentage of politicians who enter all idealistic and remain that way without becoming burned out or bought themselves. Bernie is an example of someone who held strong. Time will tell if AOC will hold strong or not. She has some added star power that might help her out.

I see no actual evidence of that.

Show me her sponsors and you might convince me.

Lobbyist funded luxury VACA to Puerto Rico, less than a MONTH IN OFFICE, when the government was shut down.

I DON'T CARE WHO THE LOBBYISTS ARE/WERE.

So, in TRUE LEFTIST FORM, AOC's CORRUPTION is "OK"....

Have a link?

Have a link?

Seriously...you are UNFAMILIAR with the lobbyist-funded Democrat "JAUNT" to Puerto Rico during the shutdown? REALLY?

Don't play "coy"...it's silly.

I'm just asking for a link detailing the lobbyist funded vacation.

30 Democrats in Puerto Rico with 109 lobbyists for weekend despite shutdown

Some 30 Democratic lawmakers left the government shutdown behind Friday on a chartered flight to Puerto Rico for a winter retreat with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives during which they planned to see the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” and attend three parties including one with the show’s cast.

Those attending the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC
winter retreat in San Juan planned to meet with key officials to discuss the cleanup after Hurricane Maria at a roundtable Saturday.

But the weekend is packed with free time for the members and their families on the trip.

Washington Examiner said:
BOLD PAC, the political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, chartered a 737 for members, their families, and chiefs of staff to attend the weekend. The memo said the weather will be a balmy 80 degrees. The dress code is "resort casual."

A spokesman would not identify the members, but Secrets obtained a list that included several congressional leaders. On the list was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., but an official in her office said that she did not make the trip.

Wikipedia said:
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) is an organization of 38 Democratic members of the United States Congress of Hispanic descent.[2][3] The Caucus is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, issues affecting Hispanics and Latinos in the United States and Puerto Rico. The CHC was founded in December 1976 as a legislative service organization of the United States House of Representatives.

CHC legislative priorities cover all areas that have a direct impact on the Hispanic or Latino community. In order to best address these diverse issues, members work in smaller task forces that draw on their expertise and develop priority legislation within each area. Today, the CHC is organized as a Congressional Member organization, governed under the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The CHC is currently composed entirely of Democrats, although it had been a bipartisan organization since its founding. The Republican members left in the late 1990s over policy differences and, in 2003, formed their own group, the Congressional Hispanic Conference. In 2017, the Caucus declined to admit Rep. Carlos Curbelo, who would have been the only Republican member.

I mean this certainly isn't the nefarious monied/corporate interest I was personally expecting.

I do appreciate the links though; it's nice to have these sorts of things easily sourced and referenced.
