Dispensary has not failed yet to request my ID, and scan it(transaction recorded in the system, even if I paid cash?). Hell, they ask for it twice! Once walking in, and again when at counter for purchase. Can't recall the last time I was carded for alcohol.A new policy memo from an American alcohol retail industry group argues that marijuana should be regulated more like booze—including by requiring that intoxicating cannabis products be sold only by businesses licensed to sell alcohol.
“States should restrict the sale of intoxicating THC products to businesses licensed to sell beverage alcohol and that are regularly inspected for compliance with laws aimed at preventing sales to individuals under 21,”
The group contends that alcohol retailers, “with many decades of proven compliance, are best positioned to sell these products.”
Pretty sure that is already the case. Or maybe I'm just so baked every time I read about non-existent requirements, I'm completely misunderstanding?Regulators should also treat cannabis similar to alcohol, the two-page policy memo says, such as by establishing licensing requirements, clear labeling standards and restrictions on advertising. “It may also include limits on potency per serving,” the alcohol trade group asserted.
There it is! Knew it was coming. Why didn't you just say so, instead of two pages of shit? The alcohol industry in recent years has been increasingly involved in lobbying on marijuana issues. That’s in part due to expanding marijuana markets that are competing with alcohol sales.
Offer you some cheese with that whine?“We also anticipate that increasing US consumer access to recreational marijuana will be a significant threat to all alcoholic drinks, particularly beer and wine, given their lower price points relative to liquor.”
I know... All the DUI fatalities, liver disease, etc... It's just terrible. Oh wait, that's tied to alcohol.Last November, meanwhile, a beer industry trade group put out a statement of guiding principles to address what it called “the proliferation of largely unregulated intoxicating hemp and cannabis products,” warning of risks to consumers and communities resulting from THC consumption.
Alcohol Retailers Say Only They Should Be Able To Legally Sell Marijuana Products

Weed is terrible, therefore we should be the only ones allowed to sell it.

Every dispensary I’ve ever been at has armed securityThe biggest problem faced by marijuana retailers these days is that it is an all-cash business. They and banks can't process credit cards else they run afoul of FEDERAL drug enforcement laws. Consequently, cash deposits have to be hand delivered to bank accounts. Since banks are closed on weekends, this means any given retailer might have a quarter million dollars cash or more on hand during a weekend. Retailers have to hire well-trained and armed security to discourage armed robberies.
Not true here. For a short while, it was cash only. But now they can accept debit. No credit of course. The biggest problem faced by marijuana retailers these days is that it is an all-cash business. I've only visited one dispensary. I was with a friend who indulged. It was well appointed, nicely laid out, but I was shocked to see bullet-proof glass where the products were dispensed to the customers.Every dispensary I’ve ever been at has armed security
My local one did for a couple months or so when rec sales first opened up. Decked out with all. Sidearm, taser, mace...Every dispensary I’ve ever been at has armed security
I’ve not seen glass inside the dispensary - I’ve seen what I presume are bullet proof locked doors - typically 2 sets.I've on

Gone now.
Mine is glass at the front desk. Check your ID and send you back through double locking doors to open sales room. One door must lock before other opens. Product is sent out of a 'vault' room through a little tray pass-thru.I've on

Wow. Never saw that here.Every dispensary I’ve ever been at has armed security
They are all cash businesses in the US.Wow. Never saw that here.
There's dispensaries all over the place but the black market is thriving still. We grow our own out here in the sticks but our son in the suburbs of Vancouver still calls up the guy he's dealt with for years who shows up on his doorstep an hour later with price and quality comparable to the legal dispensaries.
Well, in this day and age of gun nutters, maybe that particular location warranted it, perhaps there was an incident there. I've never seen the bullet proof glass, I've only seen clean, well run dispensaries where the customers and staff are polite, efficient and friendly.I've on

This was in a relatively upscale neighborhood. And the staff were polite, efficient, helpful, and friendly. The other clientele were also appearing to be quite middle class. Could have been in any boutique retail outlet in suburbia. Only the bullet proof glass seemed to set it apart.Well, in this day and age of gun nutters, maybe that particular location warranted it, perhaps there was an incident there. Well, somebody wanted it, felt they needed it, or maybe it came with the building. This was in a relatively upscale neighborhood. And the staff were polite, efficient, helpful, and friendly.
