Well, that I agree with. Pete's point, however, was about scapegoating. If you look at it from that perspective, the comparison makes sense.

FDR did round up Japanese-Americans and put them into camps, destroying and confiscating their businesses. In nature, little different from what the NAZIs were doing, just a lesser degree.

In 1988, Ronald Reagan signed legislation which apologized for the internment on behalf of the U.S. government. The legislation accepted, that the actions against, the japanese were based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership" (FDR)

Close to 2 billion in reparations were later given out by our government to Japanese Americans or their descendants who had suffered imprisonment

Decades later, we can all sit back like righteous sages and declare the rounding up of Japanese locals in America as wrong. However, after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the enemy was the Japanese and local Japanese were suspect in a nation on the defense. We also frowned on any German local and later even placed politicians and celebrities in the hot seat in congressional hearings to weed out "communists." None of these suspected enemy were scapegoats at all. We knew who and what the enemy was and we took precaution to not allow him to possibly roam free in our society to do harm. Our saving grace is that none of them were lined up and shot, tortured or slaughtered. None of them were placed into gas chambers or well heated ovens.


You stated quite clearly that there was "little difference." Jews neither threatened nor attacked the nation of Germany. Jews not were the scapegoat of Germany, but the scapegoat for Europe for centuries. Anti-semitism began in Europe. And when Germany was celebrating its newest fad or technique to slaughter another tribe for absolutely no reason at all it was merely capping off centuries of scapegoating for all of Europe.

In fact the majority of those people are the recipient of wealth redistribution in the form of tax credits. I'm talking about people with minimum wage or part time jobs that make less than $20k a year and have kids. Right off the top of my head that hypothetical "family" would get 100% of withheld taxes back, and they will receive an "earned income tax credit" of up about $4500, and child tax credits of around $5k for each child. These people vote. ....And almost universally they will vote for more "progressive government" (aka "socialism").

I'd like to see evidence of the American socialists using the swastika; it's an ancient Germanic symbol that predates either the United States or modern Germany by centuries, symbolizing Thor's hammer in flight and representing protection and good fortune. This is the first I have ever heard of it being associated with socialist movements in general.
