Damascus, (SANA)_Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem said that Syria announced its determination to take part in the international conference in Geneva, asserting that the government is serious in its decision as it considers the conference a real opportunity that should not be missed.
At a press conference on Monday, Minister al-Moallem said that Syria is going to the conference in order to reach an end to violence and terrorism, saying that this is a popular demand of priority to the Syrian people.

"I affirm that we will not accept any solution or ideas imposed from the outside… dialogue will be among the Syrians themselves, between the opposition aboard and the national opposition inside… we will build – through partnership with them – the future of Syria," al-Moallem said, stressing that nothing will be done unless the Syrian people agree to it.

It appears that the Syrians are ready for the international conference in Syria, they however are stating the they will only accept a plan from only Syrians.

First, sana.sy? Page didn't load.

It is a government-owned media organization linked to the Ministry of Information. It was established in 1965.[2]

Second, Syrians?

The Syrian National Council (SNC)[1] is recognized by 7 UN members, the Republic of Kosovo and the European Union as a legitimate representative of the Syrian people in the midst of the Syrian civil war, with three of those being permanent members of the Security Council.

 The site works fine for me.

Fallen.
Yeah, well, it didn't for me - and I'm not trying again. Perhaps your security is lacking.

What does that have to do with anything?

You're using Syrian government propaganda to assert that the Syrian government is interested in a conference and represents the Syrian people.

You're using Syrian government propaganda to assert that the Syrian government is interested in a conference and represents the Syrian people.

They have every right to state their position. Last I read about 70% of the Syrians were now supporting him, not because they thought it was the ideal but because they wanted peace and security. It is also estimated that about 40,000 of the deaths have been caused by the rebels.

Next you'll be saying we only listen to what Russia says the US wants.

Boris Johnson has an interesting article on the situation

Surely to goodness it is time to recognise that no one can win this conflict, because it has become at least partly a religious conflict, between Sunni and Shia. No one can win that conflict because it is almost beyond reason. It is an argument about the protocol that surrounded the succession of the Prophet Mohammed — in the seventh century AD! One side or the other might technically “win”, and impose a government over the whole country. But unless that government has the approval of both Sunnis and Shias, we are doomed to sectarian violence and reprisals forever.

This is not the moment to send more arms. This is the moment for a total ceasefire, an end to the madness. It is time for the US, Russia, the EU, Turkey, Iran, Saudi and all the players to convene an intergovernmental conference to try to halt the carnage. We can’t use Syria as an arena for geopolitical point-scoring or muscle-flexing, and we won’t get a ceasefire by pressing weapons into the hands of maniacs.
We’ve left it too late to save Syria – this conflict can never be won - Telegraph

The Syrian people should be the people who decide what happens now and they want an end to the violence. The conference is the first step. Assad has presented his position.

They have every right to state their position.
Of course they do, but they have no authority to present themselves as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people because their leader is unelected and rules undemocratically.
Last I read about 70% of the Syrians were now supporting him, not because they thought it was the ideal but because they wanted peace and security.
If I'm not mistaken, that poll only involved 90 Syrians.
It is also estimated that about 40,000 of the deaths have been caused by the rebels.
What, out of 100,000+ casualties total?

Next you'll be saying we only listen to what Russia says the US wants.

Presenting it as a purely sectarian conflict isn't exactly honest. It's a repressed majority rising against a repressive minority. The majority are Sunni, yes, and the minority are Shia, but the rebel movement is more than a Sunni movement. The FSA leaders are Western-educated, and quite a few of them are Christian.
The Syrian people should be the people who decide what happens now and they want an end to the violence. The conference is the first step. Assad has presented his position.
If there is a peace agreement amongst the rebels, hopefully it will entail Assad stepping down and permitting truly democratic elections
