Aide: Trump 'will not be releasing' taxes

A top aide to Donald Trump said Wednesday that the Republican presidential nominee "will not be releasing" his taxes.
"Mr. Trump has said that his taxes are under audit and he will not be releasing them," Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort told "CBS This Morning."

"It has nothing to do with Russia, it has nothing to do with any country other than the United States and his normal tax auditing process," Manafort added.

Trump has pushed back in recent months on calls from Democrats and some Republicans, namely former GOP nominee Mitt Romney, to release his tax returns.

Conservative columnist George Will this week argued Trump doesn't want to release his taxes because they show "he is deeply involved in dealing with Russia oligarchs."

"So to be clear, Mr. Trump has no financial relationships with any Russian oligarchs?" CBS's Norah O'Donnell asked Manafort.


"That’s what he said, that’s what I said," Manafort responded. "That’s obviously what our position is."

I doubt his reluctance to release his tax returns has anything to do with Russia. More likely it is because it will show he is worth far less than he says he is. And his ego couldn't abide that.

There's no legal restriction preventing him from releasing his tax returns, even if he's being audited. For example Nixon was being audited and he released his returns If Nixon could release his tax returns under audit, why can't Trump? - May. 11, 2016

Also, some of his past returns are also not under audit...

I don't really care whether he releases his tax returns or not, but everything I've seen says that the audit should have no impact on whether he can release them.

I don't because for one, the IRS is only auditing one years tax return, and he has many years of paying taxes. FOr another, so what if he's being audited? Releasing his tax returns has no effect on the audit

Have either of you been involved in a comprehensive income tax audit? An audit of one year's taxes opens up every income tax form one has ever FILED for audit. Sangha, you act as though you are an expert. You are not.

I've run a tax preparation office, I'm the only living male in my family who isn't a CPA, my father was an IRS auditor I and know quite a bit about income taxes returns and the IRS. I'm not an "expert" but I'm sure I know more about it than you.

Being audited for one year does not "open up" anything.

The IRS is *already* empowered to look at every income tax form you submit to them. Exactly what did you think the IRS does with the forms you send them? Nothing?

Yep. And when it shows his income is far below what you would expect from someone WORTH what he says he is, he will be embarrassed.

All I know is what I've read. That being that it is legal for him to release them and unlikely to substantially affect his audit.

Is there any length you won't go to to justify Trump's behavior. It should bother you that he has not released his tax returns already. It has been a custom for decades. Now, you don't seem to care.

"Unlikely" isn't good enough. Sure wouldn't be for me. As far as being illegal to release them, I never heard him say that nor saw it quoted.

Please....The IRS has said there is no reason to withhold his returns because of an audit but Trump is anyway and we won't see them before the election either.

Despite telling conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt in February 2015 -- before he declared his candidacy -- he "would release tax returns," Trump has pivoted to say he would not do so while his income tax filings are still under audit by the Internal Revenue Service. Given that he says his tax returns since 2009 are still under audit, it is highly unlikely Trump will release anything before the November 2016 election if he sticks to that reasoning.

Why is the left so interested in seeing candidates tax returns? Do they forget that many of their own representatives have gotten in trouble for not paying their taxes?

This tax return thing by the left is nothing but a vast left wing conspiracy witch hunt. So what if his tax returns showed that he is a one percenter who pays as little taxes as possible, might have some money stashed offshore, and might not donate much to charity? Would any of that be an Earth shattering secret? What else could possibly be in there?

I dont care if anyone releases their tax records. Wealth obsessed liberals care but that's about it. Chances are the guy pays very little or nothing in taxes. If true, good for him. Every American attempts to do exactly the same thing.
 
this is one of the few things I agree with Trump on.

the populist drivel that requires tax returns be released so we can storm the rich guy with flaming pitchforks is nonsense.

it is just whiny leftist jealousy pretending to be concerned with civics.

how do you know this is absurd? we don't demand college transcripts to be released.
