Iran's Ahmadinejad survives 'assassination attempt'

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has survived an attack on his convoy in western Iran, media reports from the region say.

The reports say the blast took place in the city of Hamedan where the president had gone to deliver a speech.

Mr Ahmadinejad was unhurt and went ahead as planned with his speech, which was broadcast live on state TV.

According to Arab TV reports, a number of people were wounded in the attack.

The details are not yet clear on this, but it looks like the potential assassin was an Iranian citizen.

A shame they didn't succeed. Oh well... better luck next time I guess.

Iran says there was no assassination attempt and that the explosion was merely the sound of fireworks.

Hilarious.

Damn. Someone should really try to take out that a-hole.

That wouldn't really solve things, would it? He's just a cog (albeit a big one) in the mullahs' regime. Now if someone took out Khamenei and the Council of Guardians, then something might change. Inshallah!

It might not solve things... but it would punch a hole in the face of the regime and shame Iran for all to see. Such incidents are what revolutions are built upon.

It shows people are out there continuing The struggle for freedom. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. The people of Iran demand freedom, the people of Iran demand justice. I got something to say to those brave souls that tried this.

Cook the bastard.

No, it was really the sound of the multitudes clapping their approval of him.

This is why I say that Iran has not yet sorted itself out. We are watching history, it just moves at what seems like a glacial pace. But, the tide turned in Iran last fall, and that is continuing in a million quiet ways.
