The Zika virus has increased requests for abortion meds in countries most affected by the virus.
The zika virus affects the unborn and causes severe birth defects in many of fetuses in pregnant women who get the virus.

Pregnant women in Latin American and Caribbean countries under Zika virus alerts are increasingly turning to the internet to obtain abortion medications that would otherwise be beyond their reach due to restrictive abortion laws, researchers reported Wednesday.

In virtually every country in South America, Central America and the Caribbean where abortion is restricted and authorities have issued Zika warnings, internet requests for abortion medications soared by at least 36 percent – and as much as 108 percent – after the Pan American Health Organization issued a Zika alert. There were also small increases among women in Argentina and Peru, which so far haven't been affected by Zika but do have highly restrictive abortion laws.


The requests were received by an activist group based in Amsterdam, called Women on Web, which provides access to the abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol by mail in countries where safe abortion is not universally available. Contraception may also be difficult to obtain, especially when women are poor or live in societies where women have little say over their sexuality.

I'm not in the least surprised, and in fact have been expecting some such thing. The idiocy of abortion opponents, with respect to their refusal to recognize the fact that persons are minds not bodies, means that their compassion is totally misplaced when they insist that every defective human body must get born. It has no more mind at birth than a just-built computer has a mind, when it only has an Operating System and no software associated with intelligence. Abortion opponents want minds to develop in those defective bodies, and then suffer for a lifetime because of the defects in those bodies. Perhaps we should insist that abortion opponents be required to own "lemon" automobiles for life, so that they can better-understand the difference between a vehicle like the human body, and its driver, a mind that is the actual person involved.

I have no real problem with abortions provided there is no brain activity in the fetus.

After there is brain activity...I have a BIG problem with abortions. Though I admit it gets gray'er if you know the child has severe birth defects.


Either way, those poor Zika babies.

Yes, I feel so bad for those poor Zika babies and their families.

I miscarried a very malformed little one at about 20 weeks gestation.

I can understand how devastating it must be for these pregnant woman when they learn they have theZika virus.
