As President Trump pushes for a coronavirus vaccine before the November election, one major vaccine trial has been halted after a participant developed symptoms of a “potentially unexplained illness.” After the British participant became sick, AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford paused human trials to evaluate whether the person’s condition could be related to the vaccine.

Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease specialist, told CBS the that the pause was an “unfortunate” but not uncommon “safety valve.

This reaction could be as simple as an allergic response to one of the vaccine's components.

Just wondering, shouldn't ALL Americans for that matter all people throughout the world hope for a vaccine sooner rather than later???

I find it perverse folks hope for a delay. I doubt we will have an approved vaccine before the election. Even if we did, I can't see how this would factor into how someone would vote.

testing should pause when there's a potentially adverse result. that means that their quality system is working as it is designed to work. the next step would be to study the adverse result and hopefully determine its cause. this gives me more confidence in an eventual vaccine, not less.

How many times are you going to post about this subject? Spinning again?

This is what Trump said:
We are delivering lifesaving therapies, and will produce a vaccine before the end of the year, or maybe even sooner!” Trump said from the south lawn of the White House. “We will defeat the virus, end the pandemic, and emerge stronger than ever before.”

But given the timelines put forward by Pfizer and BioNTech in particular, investors widely expect a Covid-19 vaccine authorization to be possible by the end of the year, depending on the outcome of the ongoing trials.

I think you have it wrong; people don’t want some slap dash, rushed to market before the election to score points, not fully understanding what the efficacy is. Sorry for the run on sentence...

Agree. That is why I doubt it can happen that quickly. Time is needed to check for adverse reactions and how long the vaccine is effective.

1 subject out of 10,000. That's the numbers. All you that hate Trump are happy because you can blame Trump. What you are doing is supporting people dying to aid Biden's reelection.

The hesitation for one sooner than later is that it will be rushed without the proper testing to determine side effects and general efficacy. If the motivation is to release a vaccine just to meet a timeline and not one based on proper testing, then it could end up being a big crap show.

Trump makes rosy vaccine timing front and center in campaign, predicting it'''s possible before Election Day - ABC News

“We’re going to have a vaccine very soon, maybe even before a very special date. You know what date I’m talking about,” Trump said, even as he accused his Democratic opponents of playing "dangerous" politics with a vaccine.

Maybe it will take 4 years like the Obama Ebola antivirus.

It's 40+ years & we still don't have an HIV vaccine. No one has yet to come up with a vaccine for a member of the coronavirus family. These are very complex virus molecules with built-in mechanisms for disabling your immune system.

It takes about a month after vaccination to build up immunity. If, during that month, you get infected, the virus could disable your immune response & you would have full-blown covid-19.

There are 2 shots at different times involved in some of these vaccines. I don't know the spacing between these shots but you would remain vulnerable for about a month after the second shot So you can skip the Republican-sponsored mask burning bonfire parties with no social distancing.

Let's not forget this is only one of many trialing vaccines, only one specific trial, only one person, and the issue is unknown & undefined. Pausing a trial is not highly unusual. We shall have to see.

Exactly. The single individual's problem may be completely unrelated to the vaccine.

It seems you might be trying to politicize what may be legitimate concerns.

Quite a few here have respond with substantive rationale as to why this may be a valid objective pause in the trial.

The fact that a vaccine may be available by early 2021 sounds more realistic. And given that many vaccines take years to perfect that seems like a pretty good outcome.

You failed to recognize that the person who started this thread and to whom I addressed my response did NOT reply.

So could be I just called out a partisan, while you defend the OP. Clearly your choice.

Just to be clear. I find the political finger pointing by BOTH sides repugnant when talking about a deadly virus.

Even the GOP has kept their mouth shut on this.

Pfizer thinks there will be, and without cutting corners.
