After Seize(ing) Bank Accounts, IRS Announces New Policy To Return Assets

All things considered, this is an example of government working the way it is supposed to. Those wronged petitioned the government for change, and it actually worked. So rare, but it worked.

That such stupid laws as structuring even exists demonstrates the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of federal drug policy.

Yes and no. It only worked because they (the IRS) got all giddy with all the money they were bringing in and too many innocent people were getting caught up in it and they started complaining. People won't complain as long as they think it's only happening to the bad guys, but they will complain when it happens to them. If the IRS had showed some restraint, it would have stayed under the radar, and it never would have been changed.

If our pernicious drug policy and laws had not been written in the first place, neither would the dumb statutes regarding money laundering and structured transactions, 1984, becoming effective in 1986. The IRS is just one more federal agency enforcing laws written by corrupt but well-meaning politicians.

It seems to me it showed plenty of restraint in agreeing to no longer enforce those stupid statutes and return tax payer money. The IRS is almost noble compared to the DEA.

Wrong, assets will be returned, eventually.
