Afghans vote despite attacks, turnout appears low - Yahoo! News

AP 5:30 pm-Despite Taliban rocket strikes and bombings, Afghans voted for a new parliament Saturday, the first election since a fraud-marred presidential ballot last year cast doubt on the legitimacy of the embattled government.

As officials tally votes over the next few days, the real test begins: Afghans will have to decide whether to accept the results as legitimate despite a modest turnout and early evidence of fraud.

The Taliban had pledged to disrupt the vote and launched attacks starting with a rocket fired into the capital before dawn. The insurgent group followed with a series of morning rocket strikes that hit major cities just as people were going to the polls — or weighing whether to risk it.

A couple thoughts: How can we have such horrid voter turnout in the US when all we have to do is spend a bit of time to vote. These people are risking getting killed, and yet some of them still are out there voting.

Fraud evidence already is a really bad sign. More and more I am thinking it is just time to cut our losses in Afghanistan, that there may be no real path to a real victory there.

Yeah it's always amazed me that people in other parts of the world cherish their right to vote more than we seem to at times. But in recent elections we have had almost as much corruption as they go what with illegals being registered and the whole Crooked ACORN BS. and oh yes all the dead people that voted for Obama.

In some places more people turned up voting than there were people in the counties.

And to think there were cries of foul al over in Fla. when Gore lost to Bush but when the corruption went in favor for Obama not a sound.

Never was a victory path, but that didn't stop politicians from making it a gotcha issue.

As it stands now. Obama can't bring all our boys home without being labeled a weak appeaser, and we all know how deadly that buzzword is to those in power.
