In March, the right-wing populist party AFD entered the Baden-Württemberg state parliament with 23 seats (15.1% of the votes).
Now, 13 out of the 23 members of parliament have left the AFD faction. Reason was a fight over statements by one MP, Wolfgang Gedeon:

Wolfang Gedeon (AFD) was accused of belitteling the Holocaust on the Jews under Nazi rule. In an interview, he referred to the Holocaust as "certain misdeeds" and called Holocaust deniers "dissidents", suggesting they are politically persecuted.

Jorg Meuthen, AFD faction chairman in Baden-Württemberg, then attempted to throw Gedeon out of the faction, but the necessary two-thirds majority was not reached, as 9 other AFD faction members took sides for Gedeon.

In the end, Jörg Meuthen and 12 other AFD members left the faction. Meuthen said he and his group enjoy support by the federal leadership of the party around Frauke Petry, and two examination committees by the AFD indeed found Gedeon's remarks to be "anti-Semitism".

The legal question whether Meuthen and his 12 supporters, or Gedeon and his 9 friends officially remain the AFD faction in the Baden-Württemberg parliament remains open for the time being.

Where Meuthen's move is commendable, it does nothing to hide the rampant hypocrisy raging in the AfD in not applying the same critical standards to the indiscriminate hatred of Muslims prevailing within.

But then of course the latter is their primary raison d'être and turning the double standard into a single one would leave them completely devoid of any message, let alone a political program that could be sold.

Whatever Meuthen, one of the more reasonable voices in that bunch, has by way of support from those "around" Petry, she was conspicuously absent from the party's conference dealing with the affair in Berlin today.

Simply because she had already embarked for Stuttgart in the uninvited and (by Meuthen) undesired attempt to interfere in a matter that, by general B-W stance, is something they want her to keep her mitts out of. Notably the likes of von Storch and Gauleiter are not heard all that much right now either

In the long run that whole bunch of lying non-democrats is going to come apart at the seams by its very own design and that'll be for the good of everybody.

Meanwhile, upon having arrived in Stuttgart, Petry has convinced Gedeon to resign (now done).

Last ditch effort of desperation to keep the party from disintegrating. But totally futile, the rift being in no way filled.

There's been a power struggle for some time between the radicals and the more moderate over determining the direction of the party for some time.

With Meuthen being a moderate, Petry is more of a power freak with otherwise undefined position beyond wanting to stay in the seat by keeping the party together.

We'll see more of this.

you see me happy

they do all the work we failed -though hard trying- themselves. Soon nobody will vote for them anymore and they will end up like the "Republikaner" once

We´ll wake up and all this Gauland/Petry/von Storch scum was only a nightmare

*dreaming*

In a new Forsa poll, the AFD has fallen below 10% again:

Sonntagsfrage ? Wahlumfragen zur Bundestagswahl (Wahlumfrage, Umfragen)

Hope this trend continues!

Man, I so much wish that Nazi scum will go down in flames, ideally before September 2017.

They're sure working at it.

Petry's intervention was most unwelcome, Gauleiter is stabbing her in the back for it, Meuthen has formed a new fraction called Alternative Baden-Württemberg (the legality of which to still be defined) and now you have two parties of similar names in the same regional parliament.

Keep it up, guys 'n gals, I'm sure the country's best wishes are with ya. Whodathunk you'd go that "British"?:lamo:lamo
