Adam Schiff’s ‘Grand Jury’

Adam Schiff’s ‘Grand Jury’ - WSJ
Oct. 13, 2019 5:50 pm ET
Mrs. Pelosi took the impeachment reins away from Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler and handed them to Mr. Schiff, who has been running secret hearings as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee. Witnesses testify behind closed doors, and Democrats selectively leak the testimony or evidence to the pro-impeachment press in ways that are often distorted or incomplete. Republicans then offer a competing narrative, and the public is left to wonder what’s true. All of this is supposedly in service to the serious purpose of removing a President elected by 63 million Americans.
Mr. Schiff was challenged on his secrecy on Sunday by Margaret Brennan of CBS’s “Face the Nation,” and the Democrat’s response was extraordinary. “There’s a reason why investigations and grand jury proceedings for example, and I think this is analogous to a grand jury proceeding, are done out of the public view initially,” Mr. Schiff said. “Now we may very well call some of the same witnesses or all the same witnesses in public hearings as well. But we want to make sure that we meet the needs of the investigation and not give the President or his legal minions the opportunity to tailor their testimony and in some cases fabricate testimony to suit their interests.” A grand jury? As Mr. Schiff knows, a grand jury is a criminal proceeding. Impeachment is a political process in which the House defines the meaning of “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Mr. Schiff wants it both ways: Run his secret hearings like a criminal grand jury, but then impeach Mr. Trump of political offenses even if the President committed no crime. And he wants to keep it all secret so Mr. Trump and his “legal minions”—i.e., his lawyers and the House minority—don’t have access to the evidence he will use against the President.

Comment:
Adam Schiff is running a secret "Star Chamber Court" with himself as judge and jury. Maybe some Good Ole Boys will have a little proceeding of their own with Schiff for Brains.
So much for the rights of the accused according to the Progressive Marxist Socialist/DSA Democrat Commies guess. The leftist/fascist tribunals are a real thing. I thought the defense was allowed to see the prosecution's case developing - exactly so they could prepare a defense and not walk into an ambush of accusations.
Speaking of accusations. If anyone knows about fabricating testimony out of whole cloth it would be the PMS/DSA Commie Leftists. Remember the Kavanaugh fiasco? The Russian collusion investigation? Leftists cannot be trusted, period.
“and not give the President or his legal minions the opportunity to tailor their testimony and in some cases fabricate testimony to suit their interests.”
In other words: IT'S A FISHING EXPEDITION. They (PMS/DSA Dems) want to be able to harass everyone in DC that they think might have some juicy information, and they want to do it behind closed doors so that any beneficial, corroborating, or exculpatory information does not see the light of day.

That's an odd thing for a lifelong Marxist like you to complain about.

It's been an issue of late. There's a couple of threads on it in the feedback and tech issue sub forums.

Pompeo was also head of the CIA. Spooky.

I don't know about Pompeo having any misdeeds but willing to listen. But this has to be the first time since these super spy agencies were created that their former heads have come out in full view and advocated regime change in their own country. It doesn't bode well for individual freedoms see Hong Kong vs. the NBA.

It shouldn't be such a mystery why these depositions are being done behind closed doors. You're just completely uninformed about how formal impeachment inquiries work. I've just finished explaining this on another thread. This is how a formal impeachment investigation goes. 'Closed door' Congressional inquiries aren't hearings and they aren't testimonies, they're depositions. There's a difference. A deposition can be used in court to refute any later changes in testimony that a person may provide in court, which in the case of impeachment is a trial in the Senate. These people are sworn in to testify under oath, and there's a court reporter there to record and transcribe both the questions and the answers. Depositions are conducted according to the highest standards and practices of formal investigations. They're not in the public portion of this investigation yet, but they'll get there. What they don't want is that the witnesses, some of which will be hostile, to coordinate with each other because that would impede their efforts to get to the complete truth. The majority of the American public wants Congress to get to the truth.

The best part about how Nancy and Adam are conducting this "inquiry" with no rules is that the hearings are closed but since there are no rules the testimony can be disclosed by the majority and you can't call them leaks because the majority can do anything they want.

What's curious is that Schiff may not have the WB testify. Imagine that? It's the guy who started it all and nobody gets to ask him anything about how it came to be because the majority can do anything they want.

I'm also interested to see if the Schiff's committee will write the Articles of Impeachment and the rest of Congress will vote on them without ever having seen the evidence. The majority can do anything they want.

So you deny that Trump and his campaign was spied upon before he was elected and the day after his election a concerted effort to impeach him has been underway?

Were the same instructions followed during the Nixon and Clinton impeachment efforts? I don't think so. Oh I forgot whenever Democrats are in control they create their own rules. They just keep moving the gol post to suit themselves....

But when one side doesn't accept the results of a fair and open 2016 presidential election and tries to nullify it through never ending impeachments for this or that people start giving them the stink-eye.

You can direct your stink eye at the Constitution and the founding fathers because in their wisdom they realized that a corrupt sitting president would need a quicker means for removal from office other than waiting for an election. Hence, the impeachment clause was written into the Constitution.

Corrupt lol! You mean he beat Hillary when he wasn't supposed to. The rest is history including this pretend impeachment and when it fails there will be another one as long as the Dems control the house.

Since when have "Democrats" followed the U.S. Constitution? They are always trying to change it to suit their ideology. From Jim Crow Laws, segregation, to impinging on the First and Second Amendments to impeaching a duly and fairly elected president.

The Founding Fathers who wrote the Constitution never envisioned such hate filled people as Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff would try to use it to nullify a previous election. As a matter of fact they denied the right to vote to women for a good reason. Those guys really knew their stuff.
