I was thinking, since it's summer, about taking vacations. Lots of people do it, I was wondering why?

Do you go someplace to see something or go someplace to do something? Is it a destination or an activity primarily? Do you go to Cancun so you can be in Cancun or do you go to Disneyland so you can do something?

Myself, I'm an activity guy. I want to go do something interesting. Sitting on a beach, no matter how nice the surroundings, really bores me.

So... vote!

you shouldnt limit your vacation ,you can come across lots of surprises and change your idea:2razz:

Men don't sit on a beach. They pick up women who are sitting on a beach and pretend to throw them into the ocean.

I want to go somewhere that has optional activities but is focused on relaxation. My day-to-day life is structured and scheduled enough. I don't need that on vacation.

I really want to go on a cruise that docks at various ports in Central America or the Bahama islands.

I haven't been on a vacation in 4 years, but the last one I went on was to tour the Northeast. Me and a friend spent spring break going to Washington D.C. Philadelphia and New York City. I love activities. Relaxation and scenery are nice, but they don't hold my attention very long and I'd much rather do things.

The activities in my life are what I do 99% of the time, and mostly what I enjoy. I don't typically need to go on a vacation to enjoy them.

A vacation is primarily a place where I have no work comittments. So in that way, it's destination.

If I go on vacation, it's typically to be in an environment, often a destination, that breaks the normal routine and allows for in my case, the family to enjoy being together in a new place. It could be almost anywhere and I'd likely enjoy it as long as it's not the routine I'm already in.

When I go to the beach, it's peaceful, typically a semi-private beach house. I do like to surf fish, and ride some waves, and swim, and maybe a little people watch, and look at the fauna, smell that ocean air, going to sleep feeling like the waves are still hitting me. I don't know, that's plenty for me. The Disney type trips are fun too, don't get me wrong, but waiting in lines and being in a big tourist area never really feels all that relaxing to me. I also feel a little absurd when I'm ooing and ahhing over some "exhibit" that thousand of people are passing by with their brochure and cameras flashing....eeewww, too mainstream.

I definitely like an activity centered vacation, but I like to pick a hotel that's nice enough to enjoy if I feel like lying around.

I am more of a destination kind of girl. While I'm there, I'll see if there's anything interesting, but I live so close to so many cool places, we like to just go, walk around, see the sights and try new restaurants that we don't get at home.
