Activist Chen Guangcheng chose to stay in China to protect family from death threats,

Re: Activist Chen Guangcheng chose to stay in China to protect family from death thre

Japanese news sources report that Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng's nephew has been arrested, beaten, and been charged with murder. The charges carry the death penalty. Chen's nephew will receive a trial, be shot in the back of his head and his organs will be harvested.

Then they will use his blood to make chow mein with a heaping helping of fetal soup. Here is what he did, in his own words from about two weeks ago:

Seems, from his own words, the charges are not by any means baseless. Indeed, he seemed to recognize that he would likely be charged with murder. Reading over what he said, that he admits to grabbing the knives after recognizing someone there, a person he openly admits to not liking, makes it questionable whether he was simply interested in self-defense. Whether he only slashed after they attacked him or not is quite irrelevant since they attacked him only after he came out with a pair of kitchen knives, at least one of them being a cleaver.

All of this is directed at Chen Guangcheng. All of his relatives are now hostages.

Chen's nephew will serve as an example by forfeiting his life. The family will be invoiced for the cost of the bullet used in the nephew's execution.

His nephew killed a guy and admitted that the only way in which he was "defending himself" is that after they saw him come out with a kitchen cleaver they beat him up. Not to mention the comment that he grabbed the knife after seeing someone he "did not like" makes it seem like he wasn't really grabbing it for self-defense at all. If he did grab a kitchen cleaver for less savory purposes than anything that happened as a result does not mitigate the initial intent. Doesn't matter what you think happened or why you think he did it, there is no reason to suggest this was about anything more than what his nephew did. I doubt it would have changed the response from authorities had he been some random Chinese citizen. The most likely effect the high-profile situation will have is to get the central government pushing against the death penalty, at the least.

The "murder" happened in the nephew's home. He killed an intruder. The intruder was part of a group of Communist Party members who had broken into his home. They had already beaten his parents by the time the nephew came home, and refused to identify themselves.

The CCP intruders singled he and his parents out because they are related to Chen Guangcheng. Going after an enemy's family is a Chinese tradition that has been embraced by the CCP for decades. Same thing happened to my wife's family in Guangdong Province in 1967.

In that phone interview he makes no mention of his parents being beaten and actually seems to state that he was in the house when the police came and acted almost immediately. So, there is no indication that the nephew acted for any reason other than the police moving on the house. Whether the police were acting in a legal manner would only be a mitigating circumstance. That he said he only grabbed the knife after seeing an official he "did not like" is a pretty bad admission. Even in Western countries an obvious claim of self-defense in the injuring of a cop gets little support without comments such as that. Whatever you may think of the people involved or the circumstances, the charges against Chen's nephew are not excessive.

Seem like the charges are actually "attempted homicide" which typically does not carry the death penalty in China. Again, however, even in the West the circumstances would not be seen as reason to let him off without charges and would probably result in some prison time regardless of what the police were doing.

Maybe you're right. Sorry.

You are too young, too simple, too naive!!

Chinese cops have long been used to abuse of their power. Chen has been detained illegally for a long time. All his family has been detained. They are also good at driving you mad by all means. Once you make any movement rebellous they would have an excuse of arresting you or detain you. It is excusive for Chen's nephew to deem they are offensive!!

Re: Activist Chen Guangcheng chose to stay in China to protect family from death thre

Anybody knows that without a warrant, the police are not authorized to search or break into one's house. If they break into illegally, the owner of the house have the right to defence!!

Chinese gov't has long been detaining Chen Guangcheng illegally. Damn the PRC gov't!!

As one of the Chinese people, I would say, I am not agree with the Chinese gov't, and thank you the US embassy to receive and protect Mr Chen Guangcheng!! Thank you US Gov't!!

Re: Activist Chen Guangcheng chose to stay in China to protect family from death thre

Chen was in prison for opposing it.

And that says all there is to say about you.

Yeah I am from Yinan County, Shandong Province where Mr Chen Guangcheng is from.

In this county people have a tradition to give birth to more than one child, and the one-child policy was not well carried out. The officials received huge pressure from the Central gov't to carry out the policy well. So the officials would do any evil things to carry out that policy, at any cost!!

Although the Chinese authority are evil, yet they cherish their outlook. They would not loose their own face to do that with the whole world watching.

While I cannot speak to your age, you more clearly meet the two other criteria. In politics "good and evil" are pretty absurd terms to use, especially generalizations of the nature you are making.
