Acting IRS commissioner resigns in wake of agency scandal

The guy in charge, if he knew what was going on, should be first to go. If he didn't know what was going on, he should still be the first to go for not knowing what's happening under his nose.

Frankly, I hope lots of heads roll here. Unlike too many of our current politically motivated "scandals", this is a REAL scandal that should infuriate every single American, regardless of their political views.

seems appropriate. i am curious to learn if 501c4s from both sides were targeted, or only those which are anti-IRS. while i don't believe any politically motivated group should be tax exempt, the IRS must act in an unbiased, uniform manner.

I'm glad he resigned. He should have never apologized to the tea party types. Instead he should have called for investigation of Bush-era use of the IRS against progressive groups and named names.

The media in America is perpetually bi-polar and has a serious case of ADD. Perhaps you can relate.

That's right, and I think it's significant that in multiple news reports, assessments have used the word "chilling." Because that's exactly what this is--chilling. Asking what books folks are reading? Wanting printouts of Facebook posts?

No. No, no, no. The IRS wants YOU

Apparently not:

Not sure about 'anti-IRS' though.

Care to provide examples?

If obama thinks throwing this one guy under the bus is going to end this he's in for a big surprise, not to mention the fact that whoever was doing these things in the IRS needs to go to jail not be rewarded with early retirement and full benefits.

Good, though an investigation still needs to occur.

It was chilling 2 decades ago when i was a teenager and figured out how corrupt and above things the IRS was. Now I am just like what took everyone so long to catch up? Did you actually think the IRS was honest and forthright all of these years? I am glad you finally care, but the only reason you do is because of Obama so push for some quick work here because in 3 years you will be back to turning a blind eye to this sort of thing. Maybe if enough people on both sides are offended we can actually get ......Forget it i am not tghat gullible.

Seriously, if you want some backing you got it. I am not falling for this faux outrage thing so prove you actually care and make a movement. I will be waiting to watch all this outrage at the IRS turn entirely to outrage over Obama despite the reality he certainly did not make the IRS corrupt and dangerous. Keep on target and I will help, if you go off target hoping for some support on a distraction then you are just making up faux outrage.

Since GWB never used the IRS against lefties that investigation would take about 30 minutes.

It is not obama, it is the IRS. Thanks for showing us what a faker you are by pretending to be mad at the IRS when you are really just mad at obama. I am glad to be involved in something to take the IRS down, but if you want to hijack IRS hate to try and go after Obama then go find some faux news buddies for your faux outrage.

Still as gullible as ever. this has nothing to do with the IRS at all, and the more you fakers speak it becomes much more obvious you don't care about the corruption in the IRS as long as it happens to liberals and on a republican watch.

You have a framed pic of obama hanging over your bed don't you, be honest.

No, the only reason I care is because this is the first time I've been aware that the IRS has an Orwellian impetus. If you would be so kind as to fill in the gaps for me about the IRS previously targeting specific political and religious groups, I'd appreciate it.

So...no left leaning organizations can use the word "patriot"? That's the part I've yet to understand.
You have a framed pic of obama hanging over your bed don't you, be honest.

Be honest, you're the person who hung the chair in their front yard after the Republican National Convention last year, aren't you?

(And yes, I was joking too)

Wow, how desperate.

Your'e manufacturing new scandals and then applying them retroactively ?

Unbelievable, and no, just because some clown resigned doesn't mean this scandal is over, or that Obama and his circle of Chicago scum get off Scott free. I think if anything this resignation just gives Obama time to get back to lying about Benghazi and destroying the economy.

It's not up to some desperate Liberal on a Internet forum to define what "this is about". It was simply, Chicago bullying style politics, and until a few of those scum are in jail, the Republicans aren't letting this one go.

A better comeback would have been, you have an effigy of obama hanging from a tree in your front yard don't you. No comment.

? but I found this part interesting:

It would appear that there were other groups who should have been scrutinized but weren't. There are no specific names so I'm not sure but suffice to say if there were 'left leaning' groups the IRS would certainly claim such as it would at least redeem them somewhat.

Since I'm sure you're privy to secret knowledge I'll just wait for you to reveal what it's "really" about.:lamo

Something to keep in mind. Steve Miller, that just resigned, was not in charge of the IRS when the extra scrutiny and targeting began. That was Doug Shulman...of course Miller knew about the targeting for about a year or so.

The question is whether this is an institutional thing or not.

And of course there is this:
Tim Carney: The IRS is deeply political

Oh, I figured that would be obvious of any Obama hater.
? but I found this part interesting:
I keep reading how conservatives were targeted because any group with the name "patriot" was automatically flagged (as well as Tea Party). What I don't understand is how "patriot" is a conservative word.

It would appear that there were other groups who should have been scrutinized but weren't.
Exactly. This should not be made into a political scandal, and those who are trying to turn it into one are doing so for selfish reasons, not out of any real indignation. The number of filings DOUBLED in the two years between 2010 and 2012, which just so happened to coincide with the Citizen's United verdict. I think a poster in another thread said it best. I usually have an incredibly high opinion of myself, but even I don't think I could say it better.
